Oldham County police Officer Gerald W. Colston has been charged with growing marijuana, the department said today.

State police investigated Colston and said he had grown four marijuana plants at rental property where he lived off Rose Island Road.

He was arraigned in Oldham County District Court this morning and released on his own recognizance.

Police Chief Michael Griffin had asked for his resignation, which he turned in Friday. Colston was the department’s only canine officer.

“This alleged misconduct is a disappointment to me and the other 29 officers in the Oldham County Police Department,” Griffin said. “This is a very, very difficult time for all of us.”
