Cannabis cooking made easy – A tutorial and guide.
Part 1 – The vital components of successful ‘baking’!
I thought it might be useful to outline the basic procedures required to convert weed into edible space products, particularly as new visitors to the ‘Recipe’ section of the Forum are often met with inconsistent, confusing or sometimes contradictory answers to their cooking questions.
Critically, there are two vital factors to take into consideration when attempting to produce powerful and effective weed laced foodstuffs, firstly, is an understanding of the technical process involved in extracting the maximum quantity of THC (the active ingredient) from your source material (the area where most people go wrong), and secondly, is a basic appreciation of how to bind that THC into a medium that the digestive system can easily break down and absorb, and therefore get you ‘high’.
Otherwise, not only will you be disappointed with the results, but you’ll have wasted your time, effort, and more importantly, your precious herb. Once you understand the principals however, you’ll be able to adapt virtually any recipe into a ‘mind blower’!
Let me explode one of the main myths:
“You need to eat more weed than you’d smoke in order to get high, right”?
Wrong. This is the most commonly repeated (and inaccurate) misconception.
THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) evaporates/vaporises at high temperatures, therefore, when smoked, a high percentage of the precious THC is simply lost to the air. In addition, only a small proportion of the ‘smoke’ is absorbed into the blood stream via the lungs, the rest is just exhaled. Compared to smoking, ingesting is considerably more efficient, it’ll get you far higher for much longer!
In addition, ‘Space’ products (if prepared correctly), only require a tiny amount of cannabis to give even the most experienced of smokers the most ‘intense and trippy’ ride of a lifetime.
To quantify that statement, the following recipe calls for a dose of only 0.25 of a gram per person. Enough for a trip of between 6 to 8 hours duration when eaten, depending on the quality of the weed, size of the person and when they last ate etc.
I would caution against exceeding this dose as previous trials have shown that even minor increases can dramatically alter the length (and strength) of the trip. i.e. a dose of 0.3 grams per person will generally result in extending the duration to between 9 to 12 hours, and 0.4 grams per person to 12 to 16 hours (often resulting in symptoms of panic and nausea).
