Replies from Representatives

I've contacted my state representative a few times and each time someone replies with a template edited to suit the issue I wrote to him about.

"Dear Mr. xxxxxxx,

Thank you for contacting me with your concerns regarding H.R. 5843. I appreciate the benefit of having your views on this issue.

As you may know, H.R. 5843 was introduced on April 17, 2008 by Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) and is currently being considered by the House Judiciary Committee. Simply put, the bill says that Congress may impose "no penalty.for the possession of marijuana for personal use, or for the not-for-profit transfer between adults of marijuana for personal use."

It is always a pleasure to hear from the people back home, and I greatly appreciate your recommendations and advice. I am also encouraged to hear that you are interested and involved in the legislative process. As Congress debates these issues and related legislation in the coming weeks, you may be sure that I will keep your views and specific ideas in mind.

Regarding my governing philosophy, I firmly believe in the Constitution and the Rule of Law, and am committed to protecting the Constitutional rights and pocketbooks of every American. There are four questions that I use to analyze every bill that comes up for a vote, namely, is the bill:

1) Right / Moral? 3) Needed?

2) Constitutional? 4) Affordable?

If the legislation does not affirmatively answer all four questions, I will vote against it.

I love this country, and I love our great state of Georgia. I assure you that I will continue to do all that is in my power to preserve, protect, and defend the United States, the state of Georgia, and our uniquely American way of life.

Again, thank you for contacting me. It is an honor to serve you in the United States House of Representatives. If I can ever be of service, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
Signature
Paul Broun
Member of Congress"

I received one via the mail and the other via email.

Now what to do...?

This was in regards to HR5842.

TNdankfarmer is an unknown quantity at this point
Received this from my Rep on HB5843. Believe it or not it's an improvement over the flat out "NO it's against federal law" that I used to get from him...

Dear Mr. Xxxxxxxx:

Thank you for contacting me regarding your thoughts on
H.R. 5843, the Act to Remove Federal Penalties for the Personal
Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults. Knowing your views
enables me to better represent you in our nation's Capitol.

As you may know, Representative Barney Frank introduced
H.R. 5843 on April 17, 2008. This bill would prohibit the
imposition of any penalty under an Act of Congress for the
possession of marijuana for personal use or for the not-for-profit
transfer between adults of marijuana for personal use, deeming the
possession of 100 grams or less of marijuana as personal use. In
addition, H.R. 5843 allows the imposition of a civil penalty under
the Controlled Substances Act for the public use of marijuana if
such penalty does not exceed $100. Currently, H.R. 5843 is in
Committee on the Judiciary and the Committee on Energy and
Commerce, but I will keep your comments in mind should this bill
moves through the House.

Again, thank you for contacting me. My door is always
open.
Sincerely,

Lincoln Davis

Dear Mr. Xxxxx:

Thank you for your correspondence concerning the legalization
of marijuana possession and usage.

Marijuana is considered a Schedule I drug, classified as
potentially abusive, lacking in any accepted medical usage, and unsafe
for human use. A number of medical and scientific studies show that
marijuana usage can adversely affect the lungs, the cardiovascular
system, and possibly the immune and reproductive systems as well. It is
also well established that excessive marijuana usage can adversely
affect a person's coordination and impair their motor and
decision-making skills. Certain psychological health problems and
various forms of nefarious behavior have also been associated with the
drug. In many cases, marijuana usage has become the starting point for
many young people leading to the use of more dangerous drugs.

I appreciate having your thoughts on this matter. I believe
that marijuana is still a dangerous drug, and I do not intend to support
legislation that would legalize its usage.

Please do not hesitate to contact me when I can be of service
to you in any way.

Sincerely yours,

David Davis

This peice of garbage worthless turd of a human is straight out of the dark ages. His voting record speaks for itself so it's no wonder he's a freak that believes the false mystery studies that the government spreads lies about. How the hell can anyone be totally closed-minded about all the real medical studies and only believe the ones (if they even exist at all) that demonize it and have absolutely no evidence to back it up???

All I can say is he is a true representative of this region in which I live. Most people here are totally fucked in the head, and so is he.

It would be as futile as trying to convince the Pope to become atheist.

I saw that page from another post here somewhere. It seems to still have some of the propaganda myths woven into it, despite it's small section of medical uses (for appetite, nausea, euphoria and relaxation) which are just the tip of the iceberg, while it goes on to list many negative side effects that "may" occur.... so really that source of info would just support his belief that it does more harm than good.

Thanks for the suggestion though... I've been trying to think of a good source that's simple and straight to the point for him to read since he's probably a busy man.

Well 99.9% he personally didn't reply to the email.

Storm Crow has a lot of useful medical cannabis links.

It is easier to tell him the pope is athiest than it will be to tell him that cannabis has legitimate uses.

right on the money

"may" is the keyword here, 120% sure-science almost doesn't exist...
"may" can mean anything with more than 0.00% chance of taking place to having 100.00% for taking place... maybe the detailed and actual research can tell u how strong or weak is this "may" but public hears "may" and assumes: it "may" well have the side effects

mind and body react differently to marijuana in different users, some get high and talk so much u wanna shove a towel in their mouths, some get high and zone out and can even see beauty in the detention/waiting room for jail!!!!
