(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The most well known person in the world on the subject of marijuana, author Jack Herer, had a heart attack Saturday, after a fiery speech at the Portland Hempstalk Event at Kelly Point Park.

Ironically, Jack told our Doctor Phil Leveque, an old friend of his in the fight to legitimize and legalize marijuana, that he was feeling better Saturday than he had, "In the ten years."

Event staff came together quickly and called in the paramedic crew that treated Jack in the area backstage where he fell ill. Madeline Martinez, Executive Director of Oregon NORML, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, says Jack didn't look like he felt well after the well received speech, and she told him he should get some water.

Shortly after that he apparently collapsed where he was sitting, and the emergency crews were called in. Bands kept playing and the medical personnel spent a considerable amount of time stabilizing Jack, before loading him in an ambulance and transporting him to the Emanuel Trauma Center in Portland.

Source report that Jack was in critical condition when he was admitted to the hospital with his son at his side. Soon after that, they were told that he was the victim of a heart attack, a result of arterial blockage.

Jack was was undergoing angioplasty surgery late Saturday.

Jack suffered a stroke several years ago that left him somewhat challenged in terms of speaking, but today more than one person watching him noted that his speech was much clearer than even the year before.

Jack Herer is beyond legendary with popular culture and his book, "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" is the largest and first account of the real story of marijuana and the techniques used by big money corporations to demonize and criminalize it

Atleast jack got to be an old man before he had a heart attack......I had my first heart attack at 39... Second one at 44....I'm glad they have stents or I would of already had bipass surgery

Family and friends remain hopeful that Jack Herer will recover from a heart attack Saturday.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Marijuana icon Jack Herer's supporters say the legendary author continues to receive constant care at a hospital in Portland, Oregon, following a heart attack over the weekend.

The author of "The Emperor Wears No Clothes", regarded as the premiere book of the entire cannabis culture, was in Portland over the weekend for Hempstalk, one of the Northwest's largest hemp and marijuana festivals.

Jack hasn't shown signs of consciousness yet, but he is under close medical supervision. "The longer that he stays alive, the better chance he has," his friend Chuck Jacobs told Salem-News.com tonight.

"We're just trying to focus on the positive," Jack's friend Eve Lentz added. "People have sent their prayers and positive vibes from everywhere. Every body loves Jack." She talked about the outpouring of support that his illness is bringing.

The support was hard to miss at Hempstalk, which people Sunday said was being referenced as "Jackstalk". It is also clear by our initial story on Jack's heart attack. The comment section is full of words of encouragement.

Grandma Kay Lee wrote: "I read Jack's book, 'Emperor wears no clothes' in college at age 50. It changed my life from a do-nothing mom to an active grandma, traveling the country to educate people about the need to return cannabis to the people. I had heart surgery 2 years ago, so am sending wishes to Jack for the best doctors available and a full recovery. He's been important in many lives to so many people he doesn't even know."

Jack Eich stated simply: "My prayers go out to this relentless hero exposing the lies and half truths of the drug moguls. they kill thousands of people with their dangerous drugs. legalize cannabis."

The message from Jack's closest friends at "The Farm" in California was: "Our prayers go out to Uncle Jack, Jeanie and Chuck.. If you need any thing call HOME! We LOVE you!!!!and are praying for a speedy recovery. Eddy, Linda, the family, the farm and Ministry"

Another name that is huge in the movement, longtime hemp activist, William Conde, wrote: "Jack Herer a dear friend for many years, a true patriot, an American Hero, a man that I truly love and respect with all my being, lays wounded. I pray for his return to health as there is much left to do and we are not allowed many like him in our lives. Dear God please send your comforter and heal this great man. Show your power and make him well. Jeannie stay strong girl we love you too."

Chuck Jacobs explained that a chemical had been used to chill Jack's body temperature, and he has been in an induced semi-coma. Now that process is changing and Jack's temperature is again being raised, allowing for his heart to do its job.

Eve says Jack made a pledge a long time ago that he was going to keep going, "until he turns 85, or sees cannabis become legal, whichever comes first."

Since cannabis is only partly legal, and Jack is far from 85, it looks like his chances may be pretty good.

Jack Herer, the "Emperor of Hemp", was close to kicking off a speaking tour in Europe with Dr. Lumir Hanus with Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and Rick Simpson, creator of Phoenix Tears Healing Hemp Oil that Jack firmly believes in as a cure for multiple medical problems, including cancer.

I went to Hempstalk this very same day, never even knew jack was the reason for the ambulance being there and it was not that big at all. Seattle Hempfest is way,way,way bigger, like 30,000 people more bigger. GET BETTER JACK !

Hemp Guru Jack Herer's Condition Critical But Stable

Jack Herer is the author of "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" the best-selling cult classic that ignited the Hemp Revolution worldwide.


(SALEM, Ore.) - The Emperor of Hemp is getting the best treatment of all, the very hemp oil that he has proclaimed to be the world's greatest healing agent.

As of this morning there was little change in his condition. He has not awakened, and is in stable but critical condition. On this, the seventh day since Jack Herer was struck down by a heart attack, he is still fighting for his life, but he's not fighting it alone.

Jack has long been an advocate of the healing properities of the hemp plant, over 30 years. A big step forward was his introduction to a special hemp oil, a remedy discovered by Rick Simpson.

Last year, Jack told me that this miracle cure had changed his life. He showed me his legs, which had multiple small scars due to Diabetes. Some of these wounds had bothered him for years, but once he treated them with the hemp oil, they were healed.

The medicinal properties of hemp oil are not unknown, but in the United States, this discussion has been somewhat limited to "preaching to the choir", as the FDA has no interest in researching the plant.

Jack knows this all too well, and had delivered a passionate speech minutes before he fell ill, exentuating his belief in the power of the plant.

Now his supporters say they are counting on the oil above all else.

"We ask for every one to focus their energies toward spiritually connecting with Jack and telling him it's time to wake up," another friend said. "He's got a lot of things he's in the middle of, and we need him to wake up today, even for a brief moment, to show his loved ones that he's healing, and continuing to fight."

"If he wakes up, he proves the point he's made for all these years. It has the ability to save him."

"Envision Jack Herer, the Emperor of Hemp, standing before us as the ultimate example of the healing qualities of hemp oil. Jack saved by hemp oil. I believe it," encouraged Chuck Jacobs, long time friend.

"If we all put our positive power toward this, of envisioning him well, it will happen."

Jack Herer is scheduled to go on a European tour with Rick Simpson, beginning in Prague, Czechoslovakia in November. Rick is from Nova Scotia, Canada, and alleges to be curing cancer with concentrated cannabis hemp oil (watch his video: "Run from the Cure"). Jack Herer did his research, used the oil himself, and gave it the thumbs up.

Last Saturday he told Dr. Leveque, "I haven't felt this good in years," and told his assistant Joy that he "felt like walking without help," another indicator that he was feeling well before his heart attack. He has been using Rick Simpson's oil for seventeen months.

Jack has looked forward to the world tour, as well as finishing the newest edition of "The Emperor", creating a hemp museum, and many other projects.

"We still need him here," says Seeva, another long time friend. "Please pray in unison with us, for Jack to wake up." For all Jack has done for the hemp movement, in the end, the hemp oil may indeed save the Emperor.

Jack has been moved out of ICU
Hi. This is Jeannie Herer. I will try to keep everyone up-to-date on Jack's condition. I've been really busy with Jack and don't have my computer with me and haven't figured out how to update his website (Welcome to Jack Herer's Home on the Web!) on the loaner computer yet.

Jack's awake and out of ICU. He's not talking yet or moving around much. He starts physical therapy on Monday.

I just want to thank everyone so much for all the prayers and good wishes. They really seem to be working. Progress will probably be slow so please keep it up.
