    strange technique yet amazing results?

hi guys. just wondering if anybody has heard of this technique which somebody i know uses. iv never heard or read about anything like it. he calls it 'cutting back' and he does this the day before he switches lights into 12/12.

after vegging the plant to around four foot high and making sure its really bushy, he cuts off i would say, atleast 90 percent of the branches and leaves. he leaves the top few inches of growth on and maybe 2-3 branches around half way and towards the bottom. its basically a stick thin plant... i couldnt believe my eyes when i seen it. now my logic is sayin this surely causes too much stress and would surely put flowering a week or two behind while she recovers, however they come back amazingly strong and he can pull atleast 8 ounce per plant and thats at a minimum.

anyone ever heard of such a thing? iv heard of removing lower branches but not this. seems like hes doing something correct though.

Two things happen when someone does this....

1 - The obvious stress to the plant....(like mentioned)....

2 - Since 90% of outer growth is removed....the last 10% are left to absorb ALL the energy the established root system will provide.... So instead of being the lower popcorn growth, they now become the apical shoots....

This sounds like..(shaking head up and down)..something I'm going to try........

I've trimmed within' a week of going into flower.. Never had a stripped girl in a grow! Sounds like fun,for sure! I'm with CGI... I'd try it.. It would be shorter but bushy.. What strain is the one he stripped? Thats gonna have alot to do with the results.. Cool concept!

If you take lower growth away.. The energy is forced to the top portion of the plant..You take tops from the top of the plant it gets bushy.. Weird how the constuction of a plant and it's energy,works..Just the opposite in this case.

Not sure about 90 percent.. but I trim very aggressively with a good deal of success. Basically everything below the canopy comes off for me.. When I prune/trim, I add a little B-52 to the mix, which helps with the stress. They don't even slow down..

The plant in the picture is a Critical+ in a #7 container. The trellis is 38" above the cart. Obviously I veg them for a while, but everything below the canopy is unproductive so I get rid of it. Believe me, the results are good!

    Peace,

    the strain is uk cheese.

i understand that removing the lower growth focuses energy to the higher flowering sites, but his plant seems to grow back bushier than when they were cut back and with the lower less productive flowerin sites still there. i will try and post a few pictures so you can see exactly what i mean. i think i may give this a try, its a tough thought knowing my ladies are gonna be going from healthy bushy girls to near anorexic ones. lol.

hes uses 1000w hps for 4 plants btw. doesnt ph or ec. no intake... just an out. uses autopots with coco.

anymore input or explanation of this method would be great.

    thanks peeps.

ive done similar, however every time was a failed attempt. they just never rebounded the way i imagined. it may be a strain dependent issue or could just be as simple as practice makes perfect. another may try this and it will take some time to replicate success. sounds like they are dialed in perfectly.

id say its more of practice makes perfect as i know a number of strains have been used, some yielding almost 14 oz's per lady. the buds were almost as wide as my face, never seen buds like it in my life. amazing results without the monitoring of temp, RH, ph or EC. i wish i could call him flukey but iv never known him to get any problems or bad results! always consistent. hopefully some of you experienced folk can get similar results and share some tips. itd sure be a nice change to pulling 1 oz per lady.

pick this guys brain from the scource sort of speak. i promise you if you try to figure it out trial and error its going to be quite the journey. it used to be that simple for me, now i just want to learn more and more and more. i test new ideas when its affordable and honestly product was never better when id fly blind and just trust myself to know what my girls need. still people have done some weird shit that you would be certain wouldnt work to that degree and low and behold their popcorn buds were baseballs. well, learn from this person by helping out with whatever and you might figure it out. i remember this pic of a strain called g-sus, it was a lavender, purple, blue color, and looked to be the size of a soccer ball. a thing of beauty. ive never seen that color and size again, not even in high times. then there was this pic of a serious seeds chronic, this guy had like 6 or 8 poles at a minimum of three feet long and about 8 inches across. i was like, you could beat someone senseless with that. anyway good luck hopefully you get 14 oz soon

Sounds kind of like when I put a mother into flower. After all the trimming and snipping to get my clones, and letting the plant create more bud sites, and doing it again and again, I eventually put her into flower. Either because I want to try new strains or maybe just getting tired of that particular strain, I eventually flower my mother plants,. They do get bushy and tend to out produce regular clones or seed grown plants.

The reason this technique works is because the main shoot dominates the growth of the whole plant leading it upwards towards the sunlight to be able to get more light for photosynthesis.

Scientists found that it is because the main shoot was simply the 1st shoot, rather than the fact that it is at the top of the plant, which gives it the power to direct growth upwards by inhibiting growth of lower branches. The molecules that inhibit growth are known as plant hormones, the most "amous is called auxin.

Auxin must travel in the stem down to the lower branches and that this can occur from any tip but if the stem already has lots of auxin, the lower branches cannot pour their auxin into the stem they were beaten to it by the first tip the one at the top. So a kind of competition is set up where the different branches are trying to pour their auxin into the stem first to reduce the growth in the others.

Cutting the top branch, or indeed any other of the branches of the plant will give lower branches a chance to pour their auxin into the stem and the plant becomes bushy as they grow in a few weeks like OPs friend is doing meanining you should have a new bushy plant just like he has said pruning and tying to stakes so that it grows sticks of buds is a great technique.

I learned as a child in the islands to twist the stalk of a pineapple plant till it cracks to make a larger fruit. Works well with cannabis too. I do this the night me and the ladies have a shot and goto 12/12.
