    lighting during cloning

I am in the process of cloning my first plants and I'm not sure what lighting schedule to put them in.

I've read from some sources that clones require lots of light for energey so they should be on the 18/6 or 24/0 schedule. I've also read in other sources that you should limit the amount of light because roots grow during the dark period. I have no idea which one is correct and would appreciate any advice on the matter.

On a similar topic I recently switched to the flowering stage of the grow and am keeping the clones in the same room as the main plants (12/12 light cycle). The clones are kept on a shelf above the light source. My question is whether the limited light from reflection is enough for clones or should I provide them with their own light source?

    To summarize:
    ---------------
    1. What light cycle should be used for clones
    2. How much light do clones need

    HEllo Mr. GHOST

    1. at least 18 hours of light
    2. a 42/150 watt cfl willbe adequate light for 50 clones in a single tray

If you can, get wilt spray.. the stuff is amazing!

Thanks for replying so quickly Knowm. I only have 3 clones so a single light should be plenty. I figured I would start small at first until I get the hang of it.

I dipped the clones in some cloning solution and they are currently in a clear tupperware-like container. It's been 5 days and I haven't had any wilting which amazes me.

Follow-up question: What would happen if I kept the clones in 12/12 light cycle?

yeah, both your presentations of info are correct. You must keep light from reaching the roots. At least 18/6 with HID, or 20/4 with cfl/fluo, some might say.

IF you start 12/12... with ZERO roots
    they will live...
    they will be confused...
    they will flower...

    they will produce little bud...

and if you decide to veg them... it may take 1-3 weeks to pull them out of their FLOWERING STAGE...

    and NOW you KNOWM

Thanks for the advice. It sounds like I need to reconsider my current setup.

    Hey Space!
Are you saying that you do not have the clones in soil? are the just in the water under the light?
