you have to build up a level in your system, so you wont notice effects for like 2 weeks. My buddy was takin it and I took some trying to catch a buzz from it but that didn't work. I'm pretty sure it isn't classified as a narcotic and isn't controlled by pharmacies as a narcotic.

It will give you an upset stomach if you take it on empty. Take it with a glass of milk or breakfast..

If you forget to take it one day, it could screw up your level of it, so it's better not to miss a day --

I was on Effexor for about a year, then Effexor XR for about a year to a year & a half. No reason to be ashamed... nobody's perfect, & sometimes we need some help. Good for you for seeking it out!

1)Some people have side effects, yes. They can include trouble with sleeping, some sexual difficulties, appetite, & a nice long list. These effects are totally different from person to person. My biggest side effect was that if I took a pill late or skipped one, I became very nervous, hyper, & jittery, almost like taking a lil bump of coke. I don't know about taking too much, but I would strongly advise against it... drugs designed to mess with your brain are not something to play with. Just stick with your prescribed dose, & if you feel it needs to be adjusted, talk to the doc. Johnruss2 is right, take with food or milk to avoid a queasy feeling.

2)Maybe, but I doubt it. Effexor (especially XR, which means extended release) isn't like Xanax... Xanax & others like it don't need to be taken regularly, but are to take from time to time when you feel you need it (i.e. anxiety attack, etc.). Effexor & most daily meds cannot be taken on an episodal basis, because they need a couple of weeks to change the chemistry in your brain. It's something that happens gradually. Likewise, while a Xanax will wear off in several hours or a day, not so with the daily meds. Just as they take awhile to get in your system & do their job, they also take their time leaving.

The hardest part for me was weaning myself off of Effexor. I felt fine when I took it regularly, but coming off was hell. I tried to do it cold turkey & after a week ended up at an urgent care clinic looking like a junkie. I have been told by several medical professionals that Effexor is thought to be one of the hardest meds to wean off of. Don't worry too much about it though... just when it's time to come off them, do it under medical supervision so they can step it down gradually.

I feel great without meds now, but a lot in my life has changed. I now use alternative treatments mostly, such as acupuncture, nutrition, & Chinese herbal medicine. Feel free to email me if you'd like more info or to talk, & sorry for writing a freaking novel, lol!
