Just wondering if anyone here in the UK owns a gun, not an airgun or anything, a handgun. Handguns were banned in 1997 after the Dunblane massacre, when Thomas Hamilton opened fire at a primary school leaving 16 children and their teacher dead.

I have not seen one since (apart from in the US), Just wondering if anyone still owned one. The ban is so strict, the UK Olypmic Pistol team must practice in another country.

The ban was pointless IMO because firearm use in crime has not decreased since the ban, but has in fact increased significantly.

yeah man guns suck! i'm origanally from south africa and gun related crime fucks up one of the most free countries in the world! there should be a ban on guns and the manufacture of guns worldwide!

yea i was actually having a conversation about stopping gun manufacture around the world with my mate the other day.....it is never going to happen.....lol

north of london got quiete high gun crime rate, been a few shootings near me, local nightclub(eros) espc had 2 shootings in 2 weeks, bouncer got shot in the face (eye) but lived and on friday someone was shot inside the club.

My mum's current partner has been shot before, and we live in Aberdeen. They are probable quite easy to get if you know the right people, but yea as everyone else said guns are for people that don't know how to use their fists.

When I read this thread, I imagined soliders pointing guns at all of you, and you retaliating back by sticking a flower in the end of their rifle barrels

I don't really care for guns much. Don't really have a use for one really. I have an air pellet gun, but that's just made for fun as I don't harm any innocent living things with it.

I do think handguns should be banned though. Those guns aren't a hunting gun and they are designed for one purpose, and that's to kill. I think law offiicials should be allowed those kinds of guns. If you're worried about protection, there are much better options. Use a pellet gun. Won't kill, but one powerful enough with metal pellets and some power, will hurt an intruder without a hitch. Baseball bat, pepper spray, knives (smaller knives). All kinds of shit.

agree to a certain extent....although i think if you want to hunt you should be made to use spears instead of guns....old skool! lol...seriously.

And i dont know about police having guns either.....the english police dont have guns....and they seem to do just fine.....guns seem to cause more problems than fix things.

After the London bombings in the summer, I think it's just in London though.

Just to clear something up. General police in the UK DO NOT carry guns with them when they are working. They have back up police that carry guns but these "trojan units" are only dispatched when is absolutely neccessary such as a kidnapping involving firearms or such like.
