Just buy a cab. sorry that you bought the can, but if you want to use it you could try. are you going to keep it in your basement or garage. its going to need alot of ventalation. If your only using flos though you might not have to worry about heat, but you still need a air flow. . .

Your 100 watt puts out 100 watts. What it says on the box is problably compared to incadescents, and plants could care less. A genuine 1000 watt hps puts outs 140,000 lumens.

Do you know how tall and wide the can is? Cause available height and width il be taken into consideration when picking a container. 10 gallons seems a little big. But if the trash can is tall as shit thenten gallons migth due the trick. Im using a 3 gallon mop bucket from walmart and shes approaching 2.5 ft. no sign of stopping in sight.
Are you planning on LSTing or FIMming her? |

Hi there,
I am growing a plant in a trash can aswel (haha sounds ugly doesnt it). Check it out you might get some ideas from it. I am using 2 125 w envirolites one cold and one warm. Two PC fan for venting. So far i think its going well as this is my first grow. Hope it helps good luck ... |

AS for the question, he's got your answer ventilation will be the key... |

This trash bin cab looks a lot like the rubber-maid hamper cabs we've seen on this forum; similar basic principles. That being the case, I don't see why the venting couldn't be similar - some passive intake holes near the bottom, and a decent sized exit vent in the top, with a reasonable sized out-blowing fan installed. The obviously rising on it's own anyway - that by itself would cause such holes to passively move fresh air through the cab - the fan much more so.
So while heat is definately a concern, I don't see how it's an insurmountable one, since the twin rubber-maid hamper cabs seem to have given some worthwhile results. Actually, I can see this idea (using an overturned plastic trash bin) as having some special merit if you're planning to use a small HID light - the little bit of extra overhead will help a bit with the more serious heat issues (and in that case, a better fan will be in order.) |

My 2 cents:
When you do add fans, put the intake on the bottom and the exhaust on the top so cool air comes in and hot air goes out. I picked up 2 12v, 120mm fans @ circuit city and they work great for a rubbermaid box I made with old bins for fun (parents got too curious so I trashed it). The fans are $10 each and the 12v chargers are like $12 each off of ebay if you don't have any lying around your house.
