Young & Droopy

Hi. I have a plant started from seed that's about a week old. I started it in an 8oz stryrofoam cup and transplanted it to what I think is a one gallon pot after about three days. I think it might of been too early because there were almost no roots that I could see. The dirt just came apart when I put it in the new pot. So now about 5 or 6 days later, the main stem has grown pretty much, meaning it's gotten taller but the leaf development has been slow and the leaves are small, droopy and light colored, and getting lighter. When I transplanted it I did water it but I didn't think I soaked it too much. I have watered since and watered just until it started dripping out the bottom.

There is another one that started a couple days after this one. It's still in the stryrofoam cup and is really outdoing the older one. It is a little bit shorter but the leaves are bigger and greener.

They are both in a rubbermaind tub with 92w (4x23w) cfl. They are propped up to be just a few inches from the lights. There is a draft in there but not much "wind" as the case fan that was in there before broke and I haven't installed a new one yet.

I haven't checked the pH of the runnoff yet and I think the soil is promix.

Do you think it's simply overwatered or that I didn't leave it in the 8oz cup long enough to develop a good root system, or a combination of both, or something else completely?

Well I watered on the edge of the pot just enough to get some runoff and test the pH. It looks ok. So I don't think it's a pH problem.

Yes, you transplanted it waaay early. It is droopy because the plant has been put through stress. Leave it alone for a week (no peeking!) it just needs time to get established. It will either live or die so let nature take its course, and good luck.
