Hey guys this is my first grow, so I was wondering if i could ask you some advice. I'm looking to grow enough weed for me and my buddies as we are tired of paying premium prices for shitty herb. My growing space is going to be about 3 1/2 feet long , 2 feet wide and 5 feet tall. Price is less of an issue, I' m willing to spend 1200 dollar total on the grow, ill probably run soil aswell to keep noise to a mimimum from hydroponic pumps, (perhaps even deep water cultivation).

I will be able to pass off the cabinet for legitamate purposes , due to the nature of my work , so i can guarentee no one will open it besides myself, however, people such as visiting parents , will probably be going into the room that the cabinat is in, so excessive noise and smell will be an issue.


I'm currently thinking of 400 watts HPS for lighting , probably drop 200 $ on an excellent carbon filter / fan for the exhaust and an intake fan aswell (the exhaust creating a vacuum , so all air is relieved through the filter).

My Questions are:

1) Will smell be an issue? If someone is in the same room as the cabinet is it going to reek blatently like growage even if I spend the appropriate amount of money on ona products and proper exhuast?

2) Will sound be an issue? I was thinking of buying a darkroom grow tent, then incasing it in sound proofing and surround the whole thing in a big cabinet.

3) What would be an easy way to control humidity in an air conditioned house?

4) How will my exhast system have to be setup? will air have to be mounted outside necessarily? will it just need to be exhausted or intaken from another room instead?

5) What would be an ideal strain to grow? I was thinking something like white widow due to the shorter profile, yet lowryder would be too small for this height, any suggestions?

when done correctly smell is not a problem
the most quiet fan i ever found was a panasonic whisperline inline fan rated for about 1.7 sones compared to can/vortex/fantec/ect are about 2.4 sones.
keep humidity low, your exhaust on the cab and a cool house should keep it low
its best to exhaust into another room or outside away from your grow room so you dont recycle warmer air.
get any strain you want, its up to you on what kinda high/medical values you want. if you pick a sativa learn to train it to keep a continuous canopy

After Re-viewing the space I have I'm probably only going to have about 3.5' of height, and 2'W x 3' L would i still be able to put a 400 watt hps in this space? granted I will have a cooltube and excellent airflow.

1. yes, smell will be an issue. however, there are ways to reduce smell.

2. yes, sound will be an issue. however, there are ways to reduce sound.

3. a simple bucket of water in the grow box = more humid. you can also buy a de-humidifier for less humidity.

4. suck in cool air from bottom of grow box, exhaust hot air to top of grow box. depending on how clean the air inside your house is, you can clean & recycle air very easily.

5. buy some regular weed and grow that first. once you get the hang of it, i recommend Big Bud or Northern Lights x Big Bud.
