Hello, This is my first post here at this forum. I have been wanting to grow my own buds for a while now and I am finally making that dream a reality.

I have ordered some Blueberry NL from Dr.Atomic and I am going to start a closet grow.

I included and attachment which contains a diagram of the room I will eventually set up. I will cover the walls with mylar

Now, I have a question about soil. I am planning on ordering Fox Farms Ocean Forest Potting mix; Is this a good soil to use and is it already good enough to use out of the bag?

For a grow room 7'1 Feet tall, 5'3 feet long and 2'3 feet wide, would one 400 watt Metal Halide support 3-4 plants, and would one 400 watt HPS lamp support 3-4 plants flowering? Does this room have suitable space to grow 3-4 plants?

would a simple ventilation system like the one I have drawn into the diagram work well, and could you offer any tips on how to keep outside light from entering into the grow room through the vent?

Smell is not an issue where I am.

I am not sure of any other questions at the moment, So I thank you for taking your time to read this post and I hope to hear from many of you in the future.

After reading quite a few topics on this site I have a more refined vision of what I would like to have set up.

Since I am somewhat limited on space I think that a 400w HPS/MH Cool Tube system is ideal, in order to keep the heat down and to put the light closer to the canopy.

I found this deal from HTG on Ebay, it seems like a exactly what I would want to use. 400 watt both HPS & MH GROW LIGHT GLASS COOL TUBE 400w - eBay (item 180180080184 end time Aug-09-08 14:25:28 PDT)

Would it be necessary to have a few Fluorescent bulbs to feed more light to the sides of the plants? I have also found a good deal on these bulbs. From what I have read on this forum, Heat and Electricity is not to much of an obstacle with these lights.


I am confused which reflective material to use, Mylar or Poly? For this size of a closet what material would be more effective?

Growing organically in soil is there an ideal Plant Food mix, and possibly other nutrients worth using in soil? This is what I know least about.

I am starting to become a bit overwhelmed with all the options I have and what would be best for the space I have.

If any of you can offer some insight that would be greatly appreciated!

Hows it going Obscurus, looks like you have got a good foundation to start building off of looking at your diagram etc. Really sounds like you are leaning in a good direction with the air cooled 400 watt especially being as small as the space is. Flouros and all that jazz are great to start seeds in such but when your ready for real growth get that 400 hps going asap, it will take you threw veg just fine and kick rear in flower. Yes they will even kick some rear in veg. Youve got plenty of room to work with so long as you can get your ventilation/ temps at nice levels. Dont know a hell of a lot about soils but from what you see on here people get great results with Ocean Forest. Will try to get ya a link to a post someone had on here that really would help ya out. Hum lemme see ok dont know how to put a link in here but look 4 this in indoor growing; Mulletman:did i start my 12/12 too early. Its like on the second page when ya get in indoor growing towards the bottom. Well keep us posted.
