Wink 1st effort--Thoughts?

Hey all,

Only joined on here yesterday, been looking for a forum that seems somewhat safe. This is my first grow, more of a trial run than anything else, so every bit of wisdom shared is more than welcome.
I'll leave a proper intro post at some stage, but here's what I've been up to in the last 8 weeks.

Thought since I have extreme back pain due to a Hemi-Vertibrae, and this is the only thing that really helps anymore, I thought I had better give it a go now that Bush has farked the worlds economiy. I gotta stop paying for gods free gift.

Strain:
NFI - Bagseed

Setup:
900Wx600Dx1800H - Closet lined with relective white PVC sheet
400W High Bay MH - 4000K
3 ft turbo fan (cylindrical)
small CO2 burner

Soil:
7/10 Locally made (NZ) sterilised potting mix
1/10 Worm Castings
1/10 Pumice
1/10 Full range fert pre-mix (blood and bone etc)

Gadgets:
Hygrometer, Thermometer in one
Soil probe: PH, Moisture and Light meter in one
No electrical PH meter, just litmus paper

Nutrients:
Natures Own - Super Grow Guano - Veg
Natures Own - Super Bloom Guano - Flower
African Violet Food - 4-14-10 NPK - Flowering
Superthrive since birth
(all nutes are fed at around 3/4 the suggested rates)
Epsom Salts and a bit of high calcium milk sparingly.

With that lot out of the way..

I started 8 1/2 weeks ago with 2 seeds and big ambitions.
For germinating I used the paper towel method.
The sprout went straight into my home made soil mix into 15L or 3Gal pots

Vegged quite quickly even with the 4000k spectrum of the MH, but I guess having 400W over two spindly babies from sprout helps a bit.
At 5 weeks old they hit their 9th nodes, of which I topped the 9th, leaving 8.
Small I know but hey, its a small closet.

Nodes 7+8 formed 4 main branches of which I tied down the let the other tops(Nodes 5+6) grow through and are becoming another 4 tops themselves.
Nodes 1+2 were just removed
Nodes 3+4 have been cloned - rooting
At 6 weeks I switched to 12+12 with no dark period in between.
After a week, I could already sex the plants, one had its first nuts, and the other I'm proudly showing here. Its been just over two weeks since I began flowering and she's not looking too bad at all.

Thoughts anyone?
Suggestions?
I have done a crap load of reading, searching for as much info as I could get even before starting.
The part I'm most proud of is, the whole setup including the light, soil mix, nutes and lining for the closet, gadgets etc, all up, under $150 NZ dollars, thats about $100 USD

peek at me pics and tell me what you think.
Hope to chat with ya'll at some stage.
I'll add more pics as she grows

-Peace-

Thumbs up what a pretty little plant

Looks like you've done nicely for yourself. Good luck through the rest of your grow.

Really nice plant man. I like the way you are training it, I've been contemplating whether I should try training one of my plants like that for my next grow. The buds are also coming in great. Keep up the good work

Update

Cheers guys, I just hope I'm on the right track
Here's a couple more pics from today, just a few days since the last ones
One pic is for an idea of the actual setup.. pretty simple, seems to work
The other is just 'cos I like looking
She's only small but as I said, it's more of a trial than anything, I already learnt how much is too much, with ferts, water etc, prob caused the other plant to go male myself. I have stressed this girl something bad but she keeps fighting through.
Basically what I've read to keep ya girls healthy and stay away from etc, I've pretty much subjected my girl to due to my learning curve. I'd rather learn now with a simple 1 baby trial than with a 50 clones scrog style and f*ck that up completely.

Any tips from what you can see?
Thanks ppl,
Jim

Sorry about the double post but I got stung with the 10 minute time limit on the 'edit' feature.

I'm thinking of harvesting , then attempting reveg this if she turns out OK, it IS bagseed, but it came from some tidy smoke.
I've heard harvesting and then re-veging to create a mother can cause degredation in the dna??, weak clones, etc. Is there anything to this?
I know nothing about that side of things.

hey all, any idea of whether I can do this without any detriment to the eventual mother? I've got 2 babies cloned from this plant already, but I would prefer if possible to flower them and reveg this one to be the mother.

Thanks in advance guys and girls

I don't know about DNA problems but I do know that a revegging plant grows really strange leaf patterns for a while. ./~ Welcome to the jungle Jim, welcome to the jungle Jim, welcome to it Dan! ./~ Sorry, line from one of my favorite musical acts.

high man, looks like you're not gettin' much help so i figured i'd see if i
could add anything.

anyway, the DNA degradation you speak of is possible i suppose, ...it does
happen but usually with mothers that have been kept for many years.

my suggestion would be to use one of the two clones you already have to
create a mother and just do the re-veg as an experiment, ...just to see if
you can, that way, if it doesn't take, and they sometimes don't, you'll still
have a mom for use to create a second harvest.

here's my first re-veg, ...and bagseed, just like you, lol. ...and i still have
a mom from a cut from that re-veg, which i did about 7 or 8 months ago.
(i popped the original seed about a year and a half ago)

btw, are you still using that MH light?

yeah the halide's all I got at this stage but it is 4000K tho
I figured if anything, it would end up being better for flower than veg overall.
Its closer to 2700K than 6200/6700K.
To give the light its due credit.. i managed to root the 2 clones in with the mother as she's flowering on her 13on/11off schedule.
Only took 2 weeks.
I guess I'll take the bigger of the 2 clones out and get a few cfl's on 18/6 to get the new mom going til I can sort something out.

Yeah dude.. how true

Since my last post I've had to move house, and stressed the poor girl a bit transporting her in an air tight 44gal plastic drum.. not good.
She seems not to have noticed too much.

Another quick update.. I'll start a log next time round.
33 days flowering
Not looking very bad at all.
Some pistils turning an orange/tan colour, about 5% at this stage.
Hard to see with my sh*tty camera, but she's got a cr@p load of trich's on her

COMMENTS ANYONE??

been a while...

Hey all.. Thanks for the interest so far.
Here's a few pics I took today.
Today makes 42 days flowering, this is a few close up's of a few of the colas
She's looking pretty good, but I'd love to know what she hails from.
any ideas by the look of her?
This is only 6 weeks, I have fed her the last of the nutes, plain water from here on out.
As always, hints, tips and criticisms welcome.
Cheers guys and gals

Exclamation THANK YOU!! Awesome support ya'll

First off.. I want to say a massive thank you to all who have checked this out and supported me over the last couple months.

This will be my 2nd to last post in this here created thread..(except replies that is)
I have given her the chop.
I'll be posting twice as it's been two weeks and I have plans in action already that will covered in other topics.
In this thread.. I'll be showing what she was in week seven.
Check her out.. 42 days flowering 6 days ago
At this time.. 99% of the trichs had gone milky, and about 60-70% of the pistils had turned.. from what I've read.. from milky onwards, the more amber the trichs.. the more "couch-lock" you get.
Thats great for my spine and all med wise, and that's the point of all this, but I DO like to chuff every so often just to get HIGH.
(bear in mind, everything I've said and done in this grow is based solely on theory and the advice given by you FINE people, and if I've had any success, I like to say THANK YOU!!)

In the next phase which took place today, I'll start the next post

Talking CHOP CHOP!! :)

Thanks again EVERYONE!!
Not just those who have responded, but also to those who have posted in the past and have added to my slim, but ever growing knowledge base.. AWESOME

This is her hanging.. mmmmmm

Ended up with 48g wet, so prob around 15-20g once she's dry in the next 3-7 days <-- is that right??
As I've said in previous posts, she's had a very hard life by me using her like a guinea pig, but she stood tall and took all the abuse(my cock-up's) I've thrown at her

anyway..as a couple of the pics show.. there's the herb hanging, but more importantly.. this is the new cabinet and fitting I've created for flowering.

With an angle grinder and the ever famous 'Kiwi Ingenuity'.. you have what you now see here
The fitting was originally 2 fittings housing 3 x 40W fluoro's each. So a total of 240W, (6x40W) Warm White Fluoro's for flowering planned. At 240w 2700K, they'd still have to be better than a 400Watt 4000K metal halide for flowering
I have also bought 2 x 900mm(3ft) rimu timber lengths with 5 x wall fittings on each. So another 10 x 23W CFL's will be added to the existing 6 x 40W tubes. Under this light in that much of area I'm hoping to flower up to 18 clones max, giving each 200mm(8in) square space to wrk with .. I need advice with this.

The hole in the wall is built into the house and sits above the pantry, but the opening is in my spare room upstairs if that makes sense.. couldn't be better
Its 1200mm(4ft)deep.. 600mm(2ft)wide and 1200mm(4ft)high and the fitting is made to suit. Its basically 2 inches smaller than the room all round.

Also as you can see in the pics I'm going the grow it "round the pot then flower" technique with one of the clones, and the other short one is getting the normal treatment to become a mother.

So... to cut a long story short.. watch out for a few more topics by me shortly.. covering the three plants you can see in the pic...
--LST "round the pot" method
--Revegging with bugger all leaf matter
--and growing a mother from a clone

I'm doing all this as trials to teach myself before I bother spashing out on seeds.
This makes a confirmed 8 weeks flowering cycle for this bagseed which has turned out to be rather fine imo. Pretty stoked actually

Anyways.. THANKS!! this is it.. watch out for me shortly
You have all made that much difference

-PEACE-

looking good man. i allways use l.s.t for my grows..once there growing for ten days bend the stem back and forth every day to make the stem strong and thicker...this will also help when you go to tie it over for the first time...keep bending the leaves at the stems to try get more light in there and tie it down flat so you get an even canopy..keep up the good work.

Cheers mate, really appreciate it.
Do you think the plans I have for the new flower booth lights will be suffcient?
6x 40W/830(warm white) Osram Lumilux tubes
+ there will be another 10x 20-23w CFL's.
that'll be 440w of FLUORO POWER!!!
I've gotten my hands on this lot for next to nothing and can't afford to fork out for an HPS setup at the mo

mornin' man, just thought i'd post up some pics of my CFL set-ups and
some of the buds i grew under them.

just so you know though, they do get hot so your ventilation plan is key
to your success, ample light is one thing but without fresh air, they will die!

and btw, congrats on your first harvest, you did an awesome job for a first
time grower. kudos and keep up the good work, i promise your harvests
will only get bigger and better!
