CFL Cab Grow Log...

My First grow went ok but now I have a better setup. Since I learned all i know from here. I thought My second go around I would share to learn more myself.

These are the plants after 1.5 weeks from Sprout. This part of my cab I decided to try the Home Depot route. 27W CFL 6500k 5 right now. In the top of the cab I have a T5 light. So far the T5 Grows faster even though the lummes output is matched with the HOme DepotLights. I believe this is because of the reflector the T5 has. Regardless Its working. Just slower.
Im thinking of repoting these plants but not sure If I really need to yet. I can see roots at the bottom of the pot. its a 4 inch pot I'd say. But just cuz I can see roots does that mean i repot it?

The Cab can get pretty hot at times but I think its working decent. I crank Ac in apartment so the temps stay between 72 and 87 I am excited to see how a organized grow works out for me. Heres some pictures, I am gonna do some detailed picture as I finish it.

Any help is greatly appreciated...

I hope i get some decent Smokeage.

Lower those lights, and get ready to transplant to bigger pots relatively soon. Looking okay so far though. Not great, but okay.

Cool,,

I transplanted the plants today into 6 inch pots. In the bottom of the old pots the roots were kinda wraped around eachother. So I think it was a good time to move em.

The plants are 2 inches from the lights now I think the Makshift Tin tray reflector is hurting the plants. As the plants that I put the reflector on seem to have taken a water burn hit or somthing. Almost like peeling of the top layer on the biger leafs. As the ones I dont have under the tin MAke Shift refelctor dont have this or have yet to show this. Im gonna leave it for a few more days and see if it continues. It hasn't showed up on any other new leaves. I am going to be more carful about watering the plants as well.

thanks for the comments Postal...

The tin is reflecting heat. You should probably take that off now.

Yeah I figured as much. I have removed them as for 4 days now I havent noticed any faster growth anyways. Unfortunatly just burns. ha

I can't think of anything else that would work well as a reflector. besides a big one from a grow shop which I don't have space for.

Thanks kindly for all the help.

Nice little cabinet kd! With fluorescents you really need to get them close. I keep my 85W CFL probably 1.5" from the plant it's over.

Yeha I have been putting them closer. But My temp can get to 85 at some points of the day, So I am afarid of burning them. But I have moved some closer than others and I do notice a difference in growth. I just dont wanna get too pushy. They are about 1.5 to 2 inches away from the planst at this time.

Thanks all

im doing my best,,

the lights dont move I have to move the tray the plants sit on up. I made it this way so I could hopfully hold a small mother in 1/4 to half of the cab. (I havent made proper lighting for that yet).So i could cut 2 clones with the seedlings I start every 3 months or so.

The plants are looking pretty good I am getting ready to add some nutes soon. I am also thinking of topping one plant as an experiment. I have read they say not to top plants too early. but when I grew in College with some roomates the books we read said afte rthe 3rd node you can top and we did to a few and they all survived.

Im thinking about it. Im not gonna learn unless I try.

I built a makeshift reflector with a Rice Krispis Box and some white duct tape. Im just adding it to one light to see if it affects the plants in any way. So far it looks like in one night a Leaf that wasn't being hit hard my the light has stood right up. Could be a the reflector or just luck. I have felt to see if there is any extra heat and there is none so thats a good thing.

Here some pictures.

On a side thing I was wondering If anyone had any pictures of their CLF grows. I have only grown with a HPS bulb in the past so I am curious to see if CFLs can get the buds Crystally like an HPS. I know Hps is best so will CLFs get the buds say half as crystally?

Thanks Kindly

Starting to look good KD. I've only grown indoors with CFLs and found it to be among the best weed I've ever smoked. I did find that my results using hydro were far better than soil though. In quality and quantity.
Just remember it doesn't matter how much light you shine on the plants; if they are in poor health the harvest will still be rubbish.
Here is a pic from a previous CFL grow.

Thanks Dude,,,, I learn a Little each day,, Your plant looks sweet, Im getting excited.

My PLants are looking Short and Stalky the leafs are getting nice and big. I am also pusing the light right at them, im talking like 1 inch at times. basically untill I have to move them, About every day and a half they have to be adjusted a little. But it makes a huge difference.

Thanks for lookin'

Ill get some picts after this Long weekend.

ElCheapo Whats your setup like? Cabnet or Closet? how Much Light? and What kinds? I think Ill stick to soil untill I geta few grows under my belt. Next summer Im gonna Try tomatoes on the Balcony in Hydro to learn then try it on my Cannabis.

The setup I grew that in was a small cardboard box. 50cm deep x 40cm wide x 70cm high. Veg and first week flowering with a 23Watt 6500K CFL. Then I swapped it for a 48Watt 5000K CFL. For the last 3 weeks of flowering I added a second 48Watt 3000K CFL. So at any one time there were never more than 96Watts. Total yield bone dry was 2 ounces.
I switched to a simple homemade hydro setup after my first indoor soil grow. I found it was much easier and more rewarding.
I suggest finding some mylar to line all the surfaces. It will make a difference.
I'm working on a larger stealth cabinet at the moment and will post pics when it is done.

Yeha I was thinking Of getting Some Mylar to replace My White PLastic That I got from the Grow shop. I figured this stuff might be a bit better cuz it comes ina smaller amount seeing as I dont need much. But I have since learned Mylar is absolute best, I do believe my white plastic is better than Paint though. not too sure about that.

I think I will Mylar the top part of the cab(Flowering part) before it is time to move these plant in that part. Then when bottom is empty do the bottom part of the cab.

Basically White was cheeper for me cuz I don't need very much. But Mylar is alot better I believe..

can't wait to see your cab whn its done

EEEEkkkkkk Them Bugs

I found a bug on one plant that I believe is eating the leaves. I sprayed with neem oil yesterday after killing the bug. Saw another one tonight killed it as well. I guess Ill keep spraying Neem oil. SO hopfully they will be gone. They are like, minature catapiller shaped bugs. They are Orangish yellow, the longest one i have seen so far is would be about half cm at the most. I believe they are eating the leaves, I always find them on the top of the leafs too. I have yet to see any bugs on the other plants.

you can spray need oil every 5 days or so correct?

I think there looking pretty good regardless. It gets hot somtimes but i think there pulling through it. I think I still overwater too, but they look so dry somtimes ha ha. every 3 days

Anyways Gotta jet

Is it better to train a plant (LST) during Veg growth or to do it once flowering has started, To make sure its nice and strong?

I want to tie a few down but am not sure if A. its the right time and B. Exactly how everyone wraps the plant down on the pot? Do they have hooks and tie them to wholes in the pot? Or tape them?

Is there a few items I could get form the store? proper string and hooks? etc.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I haven't started to LST yet cause my babies are only 12 days old. But from what I've read they're old enough to start after the 4th or 5th node shows. I plan on using just packing string (cotton stuff I think, cause I've got a lot of it). I was going to use Scotch tape but experimented and found masking tape held a lot better to the pots. But another point is probably tieing like loose bow knots cause you will be untieing and retieing as the plant gets bigger.
