    Lightbulb Green Dragon - Decarboxylation in a vape ?

    Good morning gentlemen, I've been contemplating whenever to put this in vape section or this one, think Ill get a better answer here.

    Master Wu suggests baking the weed at 325F for 5 minutes in the oven, which deff takes away some good stuff from weed. even tho im sure over 90%(guesstimate) of good stuff is still present, but still why waste it? Especially since the low-temp stuff is unique. Ie you wont be getting it after the bake. This is true, and very apparent if you load a nice bowl and vape it on low temps. Unfortunately my vape(Da buddha) doesnt tell the temperature, but one can vape a good bowl at a VERY low temp(half of max power on my Da Buddha) and get very unique effects from it. What one will notice is that the weed itself, even after few good tokes, will not even start discoloring (it will look same as before, but alot dryer - you can crush it easily with fingers at this point) HOWEVER one will start notice a unique euphoria at this point - exclusive low temp cannabinoids I guess. Usually you get 0 drowsiness, and very alert/motivated, can tackle a calculus textbook if needed

    Whats even worse, if youre gonna use whole 1/8oz of high quality stuff as Master Wu suggests, and you low-temp vape it until it starts turning slightly brown, I can give you my word, you and your friends will get very,VERY baked in a process Assuming your tolerance is not thru the roof yet.


    Now, wouldnt that be a more efficient way to decarboxylate the MJ ? On top of that youre in total control(ie you can go slowly and watch when MJ starts turning darker, etc). Even better for Volcano users, who can set exact temperature. The biggest disadvantage I can see is that some vapes just cant hold 1/8 OZ at once so one would have to go at it several times.

    How effective do you think this would be as opposed to baking ? I presume nobody really knows an exact answer to that, but I think it would be definately worth it to experiment with


    Im using this source, which has some compounds on it, but it is obviously not complete. There are many many more cannabinoids in weed, and surely at least a small fraction of them boils around the same as the lowest of those listed.

    Well... the ideal temperature for decarboxiling the weed is 105C (221F), far below the temperatures required to vaporize stuff from the weed. Probably Master Wu used higher temperatures because the heating of the weed in a pan or even in the oven is not uniform, and so for ensure that even the more inner parts of the weed would reach this ideal temperature he would need to heat more the outside parts of it. Also, weed always contains moisture, which takes a large amount of heat to evaporate, so it would also increase the need of heating it more.
    Anyway, the best method for decarboxilating the weed is just microwaving it for some minutes (2-3). The microwave doesnt heat it far above the waters boiling point (212F) and so it doesnt boil off any good stuff from the weed. Only remember to microwave the weed before grinding it, or it can (due unknown reasons for me) catch fire.

    One point about the oven temp is that air is a very poor conductor of heat. For example, you can stick your bare hand into a 325f oven & you won't get burned. Sticking your hand into a pot of boiling (212f) water is a whole nother matter.

    A 325 oven will take a while to (over)heat the plant matter to 325 degrees. Hence the 5 minutes.

    Decarbing in the oven seems to work fine for me, but the very low temp vape sounds interesting. Shame to waste all those tasty terps.

    Oh one other point - things do start to vaporize before they reach their boiling point. Steam is coming off water well before it boils, after all. If anyone has a clearer understanding of phase change physics, I'd be interested to hear it.

    Yes, thats true. Thats why water dries by itself, even without reaching its boiling temperature (212F). We usually dont need to heat our clothes until this temperature to dry them, do we? The natural evaporation does it by itself. The heating just accelerates the natural evaporation, until the point when evaporate is the only thing the substance can do, and it happens at the boiling point.
    The nearer a substance is of its boiling point, faster it will evaporate, and further it is, slower it will evaporate. Thats why clothes dries fast at summer and slowly (or even doesnt dry) at winter.
    I think this effect may be noticeable if you heat the weed at 325F as the Master wu's recipe instructs to, but if you just microwave the weed (which shouldnt reach tempertaures much higher than 212F) im almost sure the evaporation of any cannabinoids is negligible.
    Anyway, the best way to know how much volatiles the weed lose is by the smell. As more the weed smells when being heated, more volatile substances its losing.

    30 years ago I read that to decarboxylate weed preheat oven to 200 degrees f. turn oven off and put weed on baking pan in oven for 20 minutes.
    until crumbly.

    I'm sure jealous of all the folks on here who can bake killer weed in the oven and get the smell all over the hood without any implications of worry. Dont think mama like for me to stink up the house like that. Know I would not want Officer Friendly or the neighbors to get a whiff of it.
