Thread: Let's Make Kief...The EZ Way

Christmas is here. Have you been naughty? I sure hope so.

I looked over the kief tutorials, and frankly...was not impressed. While I'm sure the end result is good, It looks like work. Lots of work. Why not do this the easy way?

To build this you will need

a palm sander
a mirror
2 6 to 8 ft of 1by2 inch redwood slats (what you need depends of the size of your mirror)
1 4in wide board 2 inches wider than your mirror
4 1 inch blocks
and here's the important part;
a lenght of 80 micron screen. 4 inches bigger than your mirror.

You find these in any pool store. They are also used in Agricultural water filtertration....we found ours in the cane field.

Frame 4 squares the same size of your mirror....or better still make it a quarter inch smaller than your mirror and bevel a grove in so the mirror can slide in and out.
Put another square on top of that.
Take the last 2 squares and trap the mesh tightly between them.
Then put those two on the stack. Screw it all toghther.
Lay the board across the top on the blocks. Screw that down.
Palm sander on the board. Build a lip, so it stays there.

Below is a picture of the device. Also many gratuitious pictures of the end result. It took 5 minutes and almost 2 oz of crappy end of season weed to make what you see. We did not grind it, just shook the shit out of it.

Later we ground it down and shook it again, but that was far lower quality Kief. First shake is always he best.

It's also better to over dry, then freeze, what you are going to shake.

Give it a shot. You won't be disappointed.

Have you though about stacking a couple different size screens?
I've noticed that the resin globs shrink when they turn amber and start to dry.
Could use that to advantage and mod da meds to suit da malady, yah?

Hey Oldhaole, that's nice! Could you maybe make a pic tutorial of building one? I like Weezards idea too. Maybe even multiple mirrors! Or maybe make a frame that would accept different finenesses of screening, so you could just slide one in and out and slide another screen in... I've been thinking along the same lines everytime I make it...."this is too much like work!"...and I was drawing one up based on a drum shaped tumbler, kinda like a rock tumbler/polisher. But it would have to have different drums of different size screening...I have acces to lots of little motors and gears and pulleys and such. I was gonna use an old sawzall (reciprocating saw) to make a shaker too but it turned out to be too fast and powerful....LOL! Shit went everywhere! oooops! But I think I like your design better! Somebody over in Amsterdam (can't remember who it was now...) had made one and it looked so nice....just put yer stuff in there, flip a switch and ck it in a little while and scrape up the goodies! But I have a palm sander sitting around doing nothing since I quit working on boats and I think it shoud be utilized again now...Another guy, supposedly the "king of hash", or "best hash maker in the world", again, over in Amstown, says you should do this at exactly 41 degrees F and your stash should be the same temp or colder...supposedly the trichs snap off easier and cleaner....so I was gonna make one that would run inside the 'fridge and I think maybe a slightly smaller version of your design would fit in there better. Have you ever done this at 41F or do you just shake it at room temp? Thanks for posting that, I am now inspired to go ahead and build some kind of labor saving device for keif sifting! Now where the hell is that tape measure of mine???
