Despite the "don't trust authority" mentality, most of us greatly depend on those few high elite that now control things like military, banks, bascially everything that's not decided on by the general public. Long long ago we gave up our rights to let the elite few make critical decisions for us; in return we get to elect some officials to represent us to give us the feeling that we're still in control.
If enough people can be led to believe they need to eradicate a certain race/religion, it can happen again. Methods refined. The speeches more sugar coated. Lies nearly perfected; the past studied and weaknesses turned into strengths. Media and propaganda consumes the consumers. Follow the leader or you become a terrorist.
If one wishes to dominate, one will. But nothing is static. All systems crash.
This country was started by criminals committing high treason, wanting to sieze power for themselves. They figured they had the basis to start a new system of control and called it 'freedom'. And now we celebrate that capital offense every year on the 4th. Patriotism is an oxymoron.
America was started with slavery still legalized. Then nearly 700,000 died to fix that mistake. Pretty shitty start, and we're still fussing about civil rights and crap. Anything can happen, be prepared.

No Vermont! That's where all the Libertarians wanted to go and break away.

This is not going to happen. Talk about paranoia. Bush is not out to get you. You really think Americans would just blindly follow someone like this? Americans have a "don't trust authority" mentality.

Do you think all of Germany was as insane as Hitler? All you need is to instill fear into the people and they will do whatever you want.

I agree that this wont happen in the near future but some of the shit thats gone down in the government (mostly the stuff that Bush and company have spearheaded) still worries me. All the homeland security stuff is just to totalitarian for me.
I kind of hope Bush does try to pull some outrageous shit; it would be a wake up call to the nation; it would remind those of us who've forgotten that we hold all the power in this country. Of the People, by the People, and for the People, motherfuckers.

$1.00 per bullet? I have not heard of this? Please tell me more.

Yep, couldn't agree more. Hermann Goring (Commander of the Luftwaffe) said pretty much the same.

Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship. ...voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

Ya brain-dead
Ya gotta fuckin' bullet in ya head

He at least gave the illusion of a successful economy to many, industry and infrastructure growth were sizable and the Nazi party supporters standard of living increased too. Add to that the millions in gold and art that they'd stolen and i'd say in economic terms he did rather well for a high school drop out.
I think there's at least some relevance and similarities to recent events.

It's what my crazy gung-ho uncle was telling me... increases in ammunition tax could get as high as $1 per round, especially if Obama ends up in office. No idea what his source is, probably AM radio talkshow nuts or gun club buddies.
I think the overall tax for ammo might double, but to get as high as $1 per round is crazy in my mind.
Although.... if Bullet Serialization gets passed some day, then yeah it'll definitely increase the price. Many say it isn't feasible, but people do try to push for it.
