Some of the very very potent strains, such as the Hazes, have been around for freaking EVER... I think that the average smoker is just getting more access to stronger strains, and yes, the new ones being bred are certainly up there in potency... but yeah that's awfully silly, ER visits? meh. silly nOObs.

i think this in a way could be a good sign i mean they are testing the weed to possibly prove a point that it is not as harmful as its made out to be. The way the article is written especially with the emergacy room comment seems like last ditch efforts along with the above the influence commericials to stop people from realizing that this isnt so bad. I heard somewhere, not sure if its still true, that those attempts at shooting down weed only increase its use. so were winning!

I still say the Jamaican I smoked in the 70's rocked just as good as the 3/400 dollar stuff of today...

People just dont seem to understand that this potency BULLSHIT isnt a problem, in the slightest.

The stronger it is the healthier it is because people have to smoke less.

If weed was only a few % THC people would just smoke more - now they can get just as stoned smoking less.

It doesnt mean it's more dangerous - it's the opposit!

I'm wondering about several posts that I have read here recently that seem to come from some folks new to the herb. I don't know what forum they are under but if you read them they all seem to have the same theme......the user had some sort of thought that they were having a heart attack, were going to faint.....etc...and write in asking why they had such bad experiences while smoking. They also fear for their health. It seems to me that that kind of fear could lead to emergency room visits for some. I personally don't believe m/j does this physically to PEOPLE.....underline people....but perhaps I am wrong. Whether or not the physical symptoms occur or paranoia or whatever I could certainly see some fearful people running to the er because of it.

These no brainers who start smoking and do a full spliff before they have any idea what its like are to blame then they go running down the hospital and whine. This shit aint for kids its for consenting adults

The reason they say it is the "cause of ER visits" is simply twisting the fact that when a patient comes to the ER, we ask about any recreational drug use, and most people are honest- a lot of people say pot, but that is NOT their main reason, or ANY reason why they're coming in for treatment. In fact, most people coming in from overdosing do so because of alcohol poisoning. Cocaine is a distant second, and then heroin. I, nor any of the people in my family- some of whom have worked in big city hospitals, have NEVER seen a patient in the ER from pot overdose. And these are people who don't smoke pot- but they support it.

Stoners aren't the ones coming in and faking pain to get opiates- those people claim they don't do drugs.

Reminds me of a patient we once had, in a small local hospital- it was an old farmer who broke his leg- I asked him if he had ever taken any drugs recently; he hesitated, and then said "No, but does it count if I grow it? I have a large farm, and teenagers pay me to secretly grow, really nice kids, but I don't smoke it."

Now WAAAAY back in the 60s and 70s when I was a young hippie, our pot was leaves, stems, seeds and a bit of bud- basically the whole plant minus the roots (one time the kilo had the roots too!). Now, stems, fan leaves, and seeds have way less THC than buds. So here they are now, comparing the whole plant that we got in the 60s and 70s, with the well manicured buds of 07! OF COURSE there is a big jump in the percentage of THC- buds simply have more THC than leaves, stems and seeds! Our cannabis of today MAY be a bit higher in THC due to better care and careful breeding, but give me a break- they are comparing apples and oranges!- Granny
