False positive for oxy
My daughter is on suboxone. She tested dirty for THC a week, ago. She had appointment with suboxone dr. today. I still am in shock, that I even agreed to pee for her. It just goes against my character. I just didn't want her cut off from her suboxone. Her PO is giving her time to get a negative THC. Anyways, today was for dr. Here, she was worried about testing positive for THC. Then she learned, they don't even test for that. (after the fact) But, my urine came up positive for oxy. I do not do any drugs. I smoked pot thirty years ago.
I do take some prescription meds. Meds are: Lunesta, ultram, zycor for cholesterol and methotrexate. I peed in my methotrexate bottle. I should have rinsed it out, prior to peeing in it. But, I figured no big deal, methotrexate should not matter much. However, it is possible that I may have hidden a vcodin in there at one time. ( i had a few from dentist, few months ago). I was hiding them from my daughter. She did put a piece of the suboxone in my urine. I was dumbfounded that it turned up positive for oxy. the only thing that I can come up with, is that I MAY have had vicodin in the bottle that I peed in. I am not even sure, if I did. Anyways, they are sending away to the lab for confirmation. I did not take any opiates. What will confirmation reveal? I am really upset with myself, as I never, ever do this stuff. I am a freakin nurse and have worked in a rehab. |

Yes, the bottle was not that big. It held about 50cc. I thought that 30cc was sufficient.
I warned my daughter about Lunesta prior to my agreeing to give her specimen. She said that they do not test for that drug. It was a test for her suboxone dr. So, he tests for all pain meds. It is just so weird, that he does not test for other drugs, i.e. benzos, or THC. My honest opinion is that THC, in itself is not a big deal. I think that its better than ETOH and should be legalized. However, it is illegal, and she needs to quit smoking because she is on probation. Anyways, that was my first and last experience of ever doing anything like that. It really went against my professional ethics, and I am ashamed that I did it. But, I did, and time to move on. Thanks for all replies. It did get sent out for confirmation. Why it turned up positive for oxy just amazed me. I do have autoimmune illness and have history of kidney involvement. In fact, I had one kidney removed due to disease. I did read somewhere that kidney disease may read false positives. Oh well, good to know for future reference, if I should ever have this happen in an employment screening.. |

As far as a THC positive, Dr. has to realize that there are many, many (more) dangerous things people do to themselves including non narcotic prescription meds, foods and lifestyle. At the end of the day it's better to be happy than to try to live to 110 years old.
I hope she has a rapid and complete recovery. |
