The 3x3 and 4x4 tents are both 6'-6" tall. Here is my strategy:

Genetics will probably be AK-47. I've heard that has more Indica plant traits when growing and is easy. They will be under 600W HPS with plenty of ventilation, so heat should not be an issue. I will veg them to 2 - 2.5 ft and then flower, so final plants I would hope would be about 4 - 5 ft upon completion.

So, for both a 3x3 and a 4x4 grow tent, how many plants do you think I could get in there without overcrowding and to produce the highest yield??

Here's the set up:

4' x 4' x 6'-6" Grow Tent w/ a 600W HPS. Not a cooltube, but Easycool (I think, basically same concept with larger reflector). It's got a 6-inch "port" for ducting on both ends.

So, my grow room has a volume of 104 CF. The grow tent I'm getting has 4-inch vents, and it seems the largest fan I can find in a 4-inch inline is like 172 CFM. This is the expensive Vortex. So, that would give me over 1.5 air changes per minute, which seems plenty adequate to me, although I've seen various opinions on this. What do you think?

Now here's the weird part. I only have 3 x 4-inch vents. So here is my plan. I'm going to have duct coming off one of the 6-inch ports in the light and the other port in the light will be an open intake. I'll have to get a 6-in to 4-in reducer and then route that out one of the 4-inch ports. This will have the 172cfm vortex fan pulling air through the light and out of the grow tent. The other 2 x 4-inch ports I was going to just leave open as intakes (with a filter since it's in a dingy basement). So basically all of the air in the grow tent will be pulled through the one open end of the light, over the light, and out the grow tent. Is that OK? What do you think are my other options in a tent with limited ports like this? I'd like to get away with only one ventilation fan (and of course another inside to circulate the air) which seems possible if it's sucking enough air.

Also, I have a lot of questions about how/where to mount the inline fans and such. This is my first post on this site and im just looking for some advice on my grow. I'm looking to grow about two plants in a cupboard using fluorescent tubes for veg and cfl for flowering unless anyone has any better suggestions. Bare in mind that i am looking for a low cost descrete grow room, so HID's are outta the question but any advice would be great.

My first buy is gonna be this a twin t8 70w fluorescent battern:
Elec Twin T8 HPF Fluorescent Batten Fitting C/w 6ft 70W Tubes - QVS Electrical Supplies | Electrical Wholesaler
Im then gonna fit it with two of these Phillips master t8 tubes in cool white which burns at 4200k and produce 6200 lumens for per 70w tube.:
Philips Master TL-D - T8 Triphosphor Tubes - Super 80

so thats my vegging sorted. However i've been doing some research on cfl's and flowering and cant decide what would be best for the plant- i've been thinking about grabbing 26w watt cfls warm white which burn at about 2700k and produce 1700 lumens so i'd probley need about ten. But if anyone can think of a better light source i'd be very intrested.

few questions I need answered before I can perceed:

I've got around $300 in a setup and now (working wonderfully)...I have no criminal background or record except speeding fines...I'm bugging out about the cops though so bad!!! I almost flushed my baby seedling! One past by my apartment tonight and through my blinds it looked as though their was a flash of light (like a camera, not car lights), also bugging about a few other things as well.

*do thermal imaging devices ever use a flash, if so why?! or am i bugging out?!

*Also, how safe/private (from law enforcement) is it to post on this website or others? Can they track it and all that shit without a warrant? I read somewhere that the patriot act deals with terrorists but its broad enough that they can use it to gain information about marijuana because politicians beleive all marijuana and drug sales support terrorists in the end... f%$# that, if i grow im not doing it sell but for personal use.

*Why do I have to pay with cash? i bought the cabinet with a debit card.
I don't get it, and people are talking about websites to buy hydro nutes and im scared because they might be able to track it, and I already ordered some nutes from online not knowing. am i ok? I need some assurance otherwize im going to shut down... by paper-trail do u mean that they can look at anytime to see what I've bought or do they need a warrant for that? (if they dont then that F#$%ing pisses me off!)

*I also would like to see a picture of LED lights under a IR imaging device. everyone says they are low heat but can they still show up? where locally/ and what can i get to block IR? by locally i mean like walmart or lowes.

*also i have a one bedroom home and my electric bill is around $80-90 that high for this size home?

*also i have a few party lights, can that lead to anything?! i have lava lamps that give off green glows and i can see the green glow from outside on my blinds... (i also have some black lights, and red rotating lights, they are not on all the time just when people are over, or i have a party)

*What should i watch out for, with cops? what do i do if a cop knocks on my door? do i have to answer?

*last question got me thinking... do they need to give your 24 hour notice about a search? what if your not home to be informed do they go in anyway? that would be f#$%ed up.

I'm narrowing in on my setup for my first real grow (at least in a while) and I was hopin i could post the basics of it here to see what folks thought of it. (Hope this isn't too general...)

- I'm working in a closet in a bedroom, walls ceiling and door painted flat white.

- ordered 400 watt hps/mh conversion bulbs and ballast, mh for veg, hps for bloom.

- can't cut vent holes through walls since i don't own this house, so I have to use the door for venting, here's where I'm not too confident.

- plan to cut two 4 inch holes toward the bottom of the closet door, and put in flexible ducting, enough so I can have a bend and keep light from leaking too much.

- gonna cut another 4 inch hole near the top of the door and feed a duct over to the top of the reflector, where I'll have a carbon filter hanging, and then install a 4-inch inline duct fan into the flexible ducting.

- so passive intake, active exhaust, and i'm gonna have a wall mount oscillating fan inside.

- i'm not being that technical about the venting at all, i'm just trying to keep this simple and functional to grow two dank plants at a time.

- keep in mind, if anyone has suggestions for temps/ventilation (i'd love to hear em), i live in a cold climate, external temps over the next few months will drop from 40's now down to as low as 15 degrees BELOW zero fahrenheit, and if temps start to rise in the closet, just cracking the bedroom window and the closet door would take care of that right away, i'd think.

I'm working on my setup, and I'm leaning towards getting a 4" inline exhaust fan to blow from the top of my grow closet (area where the HPS is gonna be hung up). I often use little carbon filters (just like pieces of filter) on my compost caddy thing to reduce the odor in my kitchen. Would placing or fixing a couple of these right before the exhaust fan do anything for odor control? I'm not that worried about odor, as this grow will be less than three plants on the second floor of a family house in which everyone likes weed, in a very weed friendly city in a pro-pot state. So a little smell can't hurt too much. But would a small filter like this do anything? I'm wary of buying a big complicated expensive carbon filter from a garden store. Thanks for any advice.

I am using some ductwork to vent my floor vent for the central air of my house into the tent for fresh air.

I am using a 440 CFM 6" fan through a goblin charcoal filter for exhaust, with the charcoal filter place in the tent inline before the fan. I have heard that this greatly restricts airflow but seeing as though by tent is only 5x5x7 (175 CFM) I would assume 440 CFM x 3-5minutes would be plenty even if restricted by as much as 50%. Is there a better method?
