A little backstory, and then my question:

I live in Colorado. In early 2000 I started getting a chronic pain in my head. It got worse and more frequent until it was there almost all the time. I spent the next few years going to different specialists. I had X-rays and CAT scans that didn't show a definite cause. I had sinus surgery because the doctor thought perhaps my nasal passages were too small. I had my wisdom teeth removed because the dentist said those could be causing it. Prescription pain meds were largely ineffective, and had nasty side effects.

I got divorced in 2003 and lost the health insurance I had through my wife (I'm self employed). I simply couldn't afford to keep going to doctors all the time, especially when they didn't seem to be helping, so I gritted my teeth and tried to get through it the best I could, hoping it would get better in time. It didn't, and 6 years later I'm still dealing with it every day. I have bouts of deep depression from having to live like this.

Last weekend someone told me that medical marijuana should almost definitely help me. I'd heard about medical marijuana, but I was under the mistaken impression that you had to be terminally ill (cancer or aids) in order to get any. I started doing research on it, and now I'm starting to have hope that my life can be good again. I have a couple of questions before I get my hopes up too high, though.

1. I've never taken an illegal drug in my life, so I can't truthfully tell a doctor "I've tried marijuana and it's the only thing that works for me." Is that going to hurt my ability to get a recommendation?

2. My medical records will definitely show that I've been to a doctor for this chronic pain on numerous occasions, BUT, like I said, my medical records stop in 2003. Could I be denied a recommendation because my records aren't recent enough?

DENVER — Gov. Bill Ritter will direct medical marijuana dispensaries to start paying sales tax following an opinion from Colorado Attorney John Suthers that medical marijuana is subject to state and local taxes.

In an opinion issued Monday, Suthers said that medical marijuana is considered personal property that can be taxed and shouldn't be treated like prescription drugs, which are tax exempt.

Ritter spokesman Evan Dreyer said the administration will immediately tell dispensaries to get retail licenses and start paying sales tax.

The decision comes just as Denver moves to impose sales tax on medical marijuana.

Denver plans to notify dispensaries that it will start collecting municipal sales tax starting in December.

see Medical marijuana patients continue to be caught in legal web - Boulder Daily Camera

But patients with valid registry cards still find themselves in Boulder County Jail, and dispensary owners and growers still worry about finding themselves on the wrong side of the law -- or simply a suspicious officer.

Nicholas Polashek, a local musician and poet who goes by Maus Isi, says that's what happened to him.

He was pulled over for having a dirty license plate, and a sheriff's deputy noticed he had some hash. He didn't have his medical marijuana card on him, but the deputies were able to confirm he had a valid card with another officer who had had a similar encounter with Polashek a few weeks earlier, he said.

Polashek, who uses marijuana to ease the joint pain from his hip dysplasia, spent the night in jail and is facing a felony possession charge.

Patients and advocates say cases like Polashek's show that law enforcement still hasn't accepted that marijuana is legal for authorized patients and that prosecutors need new policies.

(see link for entire article)

Charges are still pending against this guy!? So what's up?!

Hi guys,

I'm considering a grow to cover my personal medicinal needs and wanted to get some advice before setting out. I would've posted this in the "grow" section but I've noticed that the responses in that forum aren't always that great for these types of "yield" questions.

Anyway, I'm caregiver for my girlfriend as well, and a friend of hers may possibly be giving me caregiver status as well. So, I'll have 6-9 plants flowering at once and I can build a space anywhere from 9 sq ft - 16 sq ft. I'm considering a 400w - 600w HPS and will probably get a 600 HPS to increase yield. I will be getting an air-cooled hood so heat shouldn't be an issue. I'll be growing in a soil mix and feeding with undetermined nutrients as of yet (hopefully organic). I won't be supplementing with CO2 or anything. This will be my first grow, although I've dabbled and vegged plants a few times and my girl has a greenthumb.

So, my question is, assuming that everything goes pretty well and I get decent results, how much yield of dried/cured buds could one expect using a 600w HPS on 6-9 plants in a 12 sq ft space? I KNOW that this is highly variable, but I'm just looking for an average assuming that everything goes OK and there's no problems.

Also, what would the ideal spacing be? I can build my area as large as I need it, so if I have 6 plants would I want 6 sq ft? 9 sq ft? What is ideal assuming your area is cool and well-ventilated.

Any feedback on this would be appreciated. Also, anyone in CO who has had a successful small-scale medical grow with clones from dispensaries I'd be interested in hearing about your grow experience/results and where the clones came from. Please feel free to share and post any CO small-scale medical grow-related stuff in this forum.

There is a rough draft of a bill by Sen Romer floating around that is intended to rehaul Amendment 20.

Here's the rundown (taken from this article: Romer's medical marijuana bill would target dispensaries, younger patients - Boulder Daily Camera

The bill would require medical cannabis caregivers to:
- Obtain a license from the state if they have two or more patients
- Develop health care plans for their patients
- Offer more services than selling marijuana to patients
- Pass criminal background checks

The bill would also:
- Require an additional medical review board to look at all applicants from patients who are under 25 years old.
- Create a licensing system for large-scale medical cannabis production

"I fully expect well over 50 percent of the dispensaries will go out of business," he said.

Your thoughts?
