CFL Flowering Grow-cab - 6 x 42w CFLs. -04/13/2007-

- Grow log -

1. Shopping List and Equipments - I like to buy from local retail stores.. mostly Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes and Electronic store(Fry's).. Of course, Ebay..
I don't like to go to a local hydroponic store.. I went one place and I felt so uncomfortable at that time.

2. Cheap Cabinet Design - I have 3 Cabinets at this time.. I'd like to grow pepper, tomatoes, lettuces and my favorite Tobacco plants..
and of course, my medicine.
I live in APT and without grow-cab, I can not grow any of these plants..

3. Grow Log - I can only have 2 plants in my flowering grow-cab and everything goes as I planed, I will harvest 1 plant every month..

4. My personal stuff..

My plant 4 weeks into flowering.. Getting fatter.. -04/13/2007-

my first grow log.. Woooo Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee d~

This is 3rd version of Vegetative grow-cab. I am growing pepper and tobacco plant in this grow-cab but I will grow anything eventually..
I spent about 1 and half hour to put everything. I spent little more time shopping.. I love shopping..

This is how it looks after I put everything together.

Storage Cabinet is from Home Depot.. I was lucky that it was on sale. 50% off.
Walmart emergency blanket works really good..

Fans - 2 x 92mm Antec PC Fans

I used AC/DC power adapter 12v,300ma to power these fans.

Lighting - 2 x 65w Fluorescent Security flood lights
(It is 6500k and puts out 6500 lumens each)

Man.. I was waiting for this light for a week.. I got these lights at Costco..

My grow-cab in action.. one pepper plant and 3 tobacco seedlings..

I am very happy because I spent as little as possible on this..

i don't think there's any way that's true. 100lumens per watt? that's better than T5HO. can you confirm? cfl's tend to get 65lumen/watt. i really don't think it's possible that those cfl's could put out that much light

4000 lumens would be more likely

I have no way to confirm or test.. It just says on the box.
The maker of this product call this Fluorex. It's from Lights of America.
Quote:
The Fluorex fluorescent technology provides a brilliant white light that allows you to see colors and objects more clearly at night providing sharper night vision. Outdoor security fixtures that use a high pressure sodium or mercury vapor bulb produce a harsh low quality light making it difficult for the eye to focus at night. Feel safer and see better with the Fluorex bulb great for recreational and security lighting.
65 watt Fluorex bulb : 6825 lumens / 65 watts
500W Incandescent Bulb: 6500 lumens / 500 watts
It was cheap. That's why I bought it..

It also says.. on the bottom of the box..
65w Fluorescent area light, 6,500 kelvin = 6,825 photopic lumens=4,550 <- what is this?

And it also says..
Quote:
Brightness lumens are not equivalent to photopic lumens as referenced in ANSI photometric test procedures, and should not be confused with lumen measurements in photometric tests.
I have no idea..

This is a hand water pump.. I don't know what's got into me.. I guess i just like to pump water.. Pumping water is what i do when I get bored.. ????

This is a Fan filter for PC 120mm fans.. It just useless shit.. Unless you can clean this filter everyday..

1 x PH meter

that's odd; i don't get it. 4550 lumens would make sense; 70lumen/watt. good for cfl

because i'm so damn cool:

The lamp uses only 65 watts but is rated to deliver 8905 Brightness
Lumens (or 4550 Photopic Lumens for those interested grow light potential)

i don't get it, but clearly the 4550 is the number you want

summary:

lumen output is good for cfl
color is not right for flowering

whitestalkslongwalks - I'm using CFLs for my grow, and I can assure you they work fine for vegetation all the way through flowering.

They may not be the best lights in the world, but when you consider the price of buying them, the price of powering them and the price of cooling them, vs any other option, I feel they're the best value solution for a small cabinet grow, and they DO work well.

A Bit of Sex Education
check it out.

My lil grow-cabs

Thank you all for stopping by~ Woooooo Weeeeeeeeeee~ d

You saw my 3rd version of grow-cab.. I liked it because I spent less than $100.. That 65w (4550 lumens) fluorescent lights are only $9 at Costco and it comes with that fixture/reflector.. So check your local Costco store if you want it..

I will show you my 1st and 2nd grow-cabs.

Ok.. This is intake part.. It has a vent filter so that it doesn't suck in everything comes near.. I change the filter like every 2 months..

This is my non-carbon kitty litter air scrubber with 250cfm fan. This lowers about 5 ~ 10f degrees. and took care of the odor problem..

About a month ago, I had a semi-annual apartment inspection so they came down and check through.. They went into my bedroom and found nothing suspicious.. Of course.. I put a beach towel over the grow-cabs and removed all of stuff.. I thought about putting plants in bathroom once during the inspection.. Shit.. My apt manager went in to my bathroom to check leakage.
Everything took about 5 min.

About soil and fertilizer..

I have to say that I am a just easy & lazy grower.. It doesn't mean that I don't care about my plants. If there is a responsibility that I need to take care, I just do it.. ?!?!?! For weeeeeeeeeee~ d but I am a lazy person..
I never go pro.. too scientific..

Jiffy Peat pellets: for seeding and cloning. For cloning, my successful rate is about 100% so far. I had too many cuttings so I had to throw them away.. and Olivia cloning gel is a great product.

Soil: Supersoil(70%) + Perlite (30%)
I don't have any problems with this soil and I don't know the exact percentage that I mix the soil with perlite/vermiculite. Mixing perlite is a "MUST". I am thinking about trying a Miracle Grow Organic soil next time.. The word, "Organic" makes me want to try it~

Fertilizer: FoxFarm Organic liquid food.. (Grow Big, Big Bloom, Tiger Bloom) and a Superthrive. That's all I use.
Supersoil soil can provide nutrients for upto 90 days so I am not gonna use any fertilizer during veg(for 4 weeks). I use 1/4 strength of fertilizer for first 4 weeks into flowering. After that, full strength..
Ok.. Here is what I learned so far.. I am not gonna use "Grow Big" and this is not for grow-cab growers. Girls are already 3.5' and almost 4' tall.. They grew too big so I ended up renovating my flowering grow-cab.
I have to decide whether I'm gonna use Big Bloom or Tiger Bloom.. Big Bloom is ok for both vegetative and flowering. Tiger Bloom is for flowering only so I might go with Tiger Bloom only. and I'll try MG plant food.

Do I grow easy? How can I grow my penis bigger? Any ferts?

My vegetative grow-cab

Ok.. I'll introduce my vegetative grow-cab.. Say hello..
"Hello!"
There is not much of education in my grow-log and don't expect that. I am not here to teach anybody.. "I just want to show this is how I do.. and let me see yours?" yes.. this is just a stupid marijuana grow blog.. anyway..

This is white cabinet from Target.. It's only $29 or something..

I got 6 beautiful female babies in my vegetative grow-cab right now..
I am sorry, babies.. I have to let go 4 babies.. I am thinking how I can kill them with no pain. Anybody got a painkiller?

Ok.. this is a just normal vegetative grow-cab.. with 6 x 26w 6500k CFL(about 1800 lumens, right?) and 1 x 65w Fluorescent light(4550 Lumens,6500k) and 2 x 120mm Antec PC fans. My 1 gallon ULTRASONIC humidifier is too big to have a space in this cab. Damn..

Pruning?

6 of my plants are in a vegetative state and I started to work on pruning..
I don't know what exactly "PRUNING" is yet.. but What I want to achieve is that I get 4 ~ 6 fat colas instead of many popcorn buds.
I have topped and pruned my plants and I got 8 main stems. I left 2 for cutting.
The problem that I had was where to cut. I left all fan leaves uncut.
