Dizzy's Cabinet grow log
I hope you all don't mind, but I've already started a log in the cabinet section and updating two logs seems a little redundant. So I will link it and update the link in this section when I update the log in the cab section.

That brown on the tips is either nute burn or your ph is off, thought I'd let you know. You may want to ck the run off of the water coming from your cups. Although, you may have already solved the problem with the good watering you just gave them- depending what water you used of course! I'd already be looking for new pots too.....
You've already getting over the main first hurdles most growers experience....yah! Isn't this hobby fun? You are doing well! Bree

hold off on nutes until 3 weeks into veg
that HPS light worries me with all those wires right there, i would undo the whole setup and remove the ballast and ignitor and make them remote somewhere else outside the grow area. get some sheet metal and mothers magnum polish and polish a reflector for the inside of that hood and cut to fit, other than that just keep off those nutes. |

Thanks guys.
![]() Bree, not sure if you noticed and if you did, if you are sure about the ailments. But all those plants were pretty burnt a few days ago when I hooked up the hood and added more CFL's in the cab. They are making a great recovery from it. But, if you stil think it's ph or nute burn (which I really dont think it's nutes, last night was the 1st time any nutes were added to the soil) then I will check the ph. I need to get a test kit anyway. Invision, I agree! All those wires make me nervous too. In addition to not wanting to add some ugly ass brown box in my cab, I wanted to rewire that sucker in something remote. Do you know how long the run of wires can be from the socket to the electronics? And I am having a good time. It's nice to have a hobby that has near instant results to what works and what doesn't. Like this morning I checked on the plants because I was nervous about the MG addition, but holy hell they liked it! Like little gree afros on sticks. poof |

OOPs, I must have missed that they had nute burn...in my defense, I did notice that you said you burned them with the CFL. Yes, I think you should def, get your ph kit. With you adding the MG soil, you ph may get thrown out of whack, like real quick like! But even if it doesn't (which for those of you who remember our dear GK, the knowm used water that had a ph of 8 with MG soil and that made it perfect, quick someone post that link!!) you are going to need it basically soon as you use nutes. At least that is my experience.....It's always good to ck your runoff after adding something...
Also chem ferts do tend to bring the soil ph down after time.... Now lemme tell you my experience with ph kits. I've bought the soil one from soilmaster (UTTER crap), one for testing pools/spas (okay if you can differentiate colors Real well), and a Hanna student ph tester (the best I've had thus far but I've found things that I wish I would have noticed before I plopped down the moolah, about 25). If you go for the digital, I've heard Milwaukee has one for 40 that is good...info from Latewood in another post somewhere....The thing I don't like about mine is it has two calibration points (blech more work for me) and that the points move much too easy and I end up having to calibrate it everytime I use it. WOW, I wrote a freaking book!! I probably gave you way more info than you even wanted, but for some reason I felt like sharing. Bree

I don't think I said they had nute burn. BUT, no matter what, I will get a PH tester. Again, thank you for the information. I'll see what I can find for an electronic tester and I'll stear clear of the "soilmaster". Now if I can find large black square pots in town... I don't want to plant in round, I can maximize space with square. |

Would a PH tester like this work?

hey dizzy
i believe the ballast and ignitor can be up to 10 feet from the socket so i wouldnt worry much if its going to be rather close by. i have never used a PH tester with my grows all though i do have one i find it a unnessasary item unless you do hydro, i just know exactly how much PH up i need when i add nutes plus i go out of my way and by distilled water and add Cal-Mag Plus to it, add my nutes, 7 drops of PH up BAM 6.5 if i was to use tap water i would break out the PH testing. |

did you say somewhere you were using miracle grow soil or moisture control or something??i had 2 plants in mg soil once, they were both fine for first 2 weeks then i gave one nutes, straight away it got majorly nute burned, the other one did nicely though,i never gave that plant any nutes at all until after 1st week flowering, and then started a dilute flower nute mix and worked it up
anyway i guess what i'm saying is,if i were you,i wouldn't give the plants in mg soil any nutes until after you start flower or chances are they will burn |

Thanks Invision. 10' is more than enough to mount. My cab have purpose built overhangs on the top/back and bottom of the right side of the cab. I did this to mount anything I don't want inside the cab. I'm going to drill out vent holes in that enclosure (after I work the wiring) and mount a small fan inside to exhaust it.
I thought I read somewhere that you can make tap water more usable by letting it sit out for awhile? Wives tale? Atsar, you did read that I was using Moisture control MG soil... but only the top 1/2 to 1" which is on top of the Black Gold potting soil. I have read about MG burning up plants and also helping plants. To stay on the safe side I was gointo mix it up with the Black Gold and Perlite when I transplant... which will most likely be tonite as I got some pots at lunch. No square pots in a 2-3 gallon size can be found locally, so I had to settle for the roundies. Thanks for the replies guy, all the help is what I need. |

Got some trash cans.. err pots
New photos and something that might work as pots. 1.67 each, well 3 something each, but they were in the wrong section. oops
Think I might wait to sex the plants before I put them in those, or soon after. They're pretty tall, even after I trim them down, so I'd like to be down a few plants when I do it. Aren't they suave looking planters? lol |

Did another transplant last night. Plants were root bound like a mo fo!
I'm going to need to weed out half of them asap, my cab space got a teeeensy bit smaller. Checked on them all this morning and.. wow... they all have taken to the bigger pots with some vigor! And they're starting to stink, smell good, but still stink. This weekend will be filter making time. I'll update pics tonight. |
