Ursine's first grow - The trial and error log
This will be my first ever grow log. I am a longtime stoner but first time grower. I have spent many days reading up on growing but its so overwhelming I think I am going to just try it first and see what happens and my next crop get into it right. So anyways, I planted 4 seeds on Aug 17th and I will post the first pics when they sprout. I think 2 of the seeds are white widow, one is northern lights, and one is a mystery, maybe Gods Gift.
Lesson #1: I already killed one plant last week that was about 2 weeks old because I baked it under a light, lesson learned, dont get the light too close and make sure the plant has plenty of air flow.

Alright, I am one week into it and I have 3 plants growing and 1 still trying. The one problem I am noticing is that I am getting a lot of mushrooms growing in the soil with the plants. From my research it appears that its because I used some type of mushroom compost so is this going to be a problem? From what I would guess as long as they dont choke out my plants they should be fine but any advise on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I will take pics tomorrow!

Alright, so I found out that I was over watering the plants, thats why the mushrooms were able to grow. Now that I have backed off the watering the mushrooms have gone away. :-)

Im using some light from a lamp, Im not expecting much, just needed to start somewhere. The next set I grow will be with a proper light and nutrients and such.

Hi ursine
I not a soil grower but one thing I have seen StinkyAttic mention in the past is the distance between the top of your pot & the top of your soil. You seem to have quite a deep lip on the pot & I'm sure she has posted you want the soil as close to the top as possible in order to increase airflow around the base of the plant. As I say sure this is something I have read maybe another soil grower will confirm.
Good luck with your grow.

ditto, you do want the soil up near the rim. But, I like to be able to water freely without having the water and soil flow out the top, so that Ursine's plants don't seem too bad in that respect.
They are alive, but it is remarkable how wee they are still. Probably Ursine has learned a bit in the last 4-5 months to start another grow with much better success of a harvestable crop.
Best of Luck Ursine, and thenks for updating your grow log!

I thought that was the case Shovehandle, just thought they looked over an inch & maybe it was something Ursine could consider for her next re pot if she goes ahead with this grow or adapt in her next. Ive been learning hydro so as said anything I would say on soil is best backed up by the likes of yourself who uses it.

From What I see and reading the log, you are over 3 months into this grow something is serriously wrong.
From your last pics your soil looks extreamly dry, need to water them, I use a $10.00 hydrometer from HD to check my soil between waterings to make sure they need it.
Lighting what are you using and what kind of time cycle are you on? When you say light from a lamp do you mean 100w incadecent light (standard every day lightbulb)?
If so I think this is the root of your grow issues, they produce to much heat and the wrong color spectrum for growing, that will explane the very slow growth and the burnt leaves.
If you want to save this crop and learn to flower you need to replace that light with a CFL rated at 2100 kelvin or warm white, water the plants, get a timer and set it to 12/12 hours on and off.
Once you have done this check back in with some pics and we will go from there.
WULOL.
