Well what kind of things can go wrong with hempys? I've seen a few people with issues and no clue why....someone said that you don't have to worry about ph with them....is that true? And do you feed them nute solution every time you water? And why wouldn't you want moving parts in your hydro so that you wouldln't have to water any more?
Pros?
Cons?
Do tell please.

What's the background on your "cough" strain...do you know?

The background is limited to the fact that I picked them up as clones from a co-op in Van Nuys. They are rumored to be a 3/4 sativa 1/4 indica renowned for very nice anti-anxiety properties.

In the past I had hempys with no problems. It has been as simple as mixing full strength nutes according to the directions on the bottle and watering them every other day until runoff spills into the catch tray. They can be over watered but it takes a lot of work to do so. I never checked the PH in the past, nor am I doing it now.
The main advantages of hempy right now is that my 2 hydro rooms are full and I have a cabinet in the garage that is now the Hempy Hotel. It gets 10 degrees hotter out there and that would put reservoir temps in the 80's - 90's which I have found to be a problem. Also with hempy it is a shorter height setup so I can grow easier in confined spaces. Last but not least it is simple for my GF to care for these girls when I don't have the time. She is slowly being trained into hydro, but has never grown before so we are taking it in small steps.
Technically it is a hydroponic setup - no soil, neutral medium - so it is easy to flush and recover from nute problems.
Overall it produces similar results to DWC or drip/WF types, but a bit smaller on yield. The downside is that I have to mix and manually water 3x week, and nute consumption is pretty heavy. But for the time being I think it suits me fine as a complement (not replacement!) for the hydro.
P.S. Just picked up a kickass Lumitec 600W digital ballast, Eye Hort HPS bulb and top of the line Daystar air cooled hood... When GDP is done in June I have an upgrade planned for the grow closet!

Fang.....Day 23 Bloom
Dude that light sounds KILLER! Hortilux eye is supposed to be the best....that's what I use. And I LOVE my digital ballast.....I'll never go back to the standard ones again.
Thanks for the hempy info. I really want to get into these and explore them further so glad you know about them. Hey, can you transplant those things? Doesn't all the perlite break apart if you try it?
Here's a couple of pics of Fang yesterday.

Hey again, yeah you can transplant the hempys. It takes a careful hand and is a bit messy but it can be done. I am somewhere around 2-4 weeks away from doing just that so I'll snap some pictures when it happens. I like to keep them somewhat moist when I do it so the perlite doesn't crumble away and create a nasty dust.

Yes please do....I really want to learn more about the hempys.....as much as possible (within my brain limits of course)
Thanks very much for the gift in the mail. Haven't had a chance to use it yet although Mr Hound did accidently cut off a finger. (j/k )

I just try to make sure they stay moist.... and if your gonna foliar feed try to keep the nutrient to a 1/8 to 1/4 strength...
I've got some fat hairy roots on my clones at least on the survivors..lol...

Nice, real nice. I'm pleased. I've not foliar feed babies either, but I'm with d4 on 1/8 strength, at least for starters. As for frequency, I'm guessing every day or two would be good.

Fang....Day 35 Bloom
So Fang is coming along great even though I split the stem about an inch while trying to LST her (I ALAWAYS do that ) but she just doesn't seem to care much; just keeps on growing. That 400w light directly over her is causing the back of the plant to develop as nicely as the front is. Usually our plants have somewhat lesser development in the back and this is what we wanted to change this grow. So far so good.....
Her ppms are at approximately 1300-1350 and will stay there until we start to flush her.
This plant is supposed to finish at 7-9 weeks.....I think she's going to take longer just because of her size.

Only 2 Left Shov
Ak 47....
The one is soil is doing great but the other three got too cold one night during a bit of a surprise rain and we didn't have the central heat on so two croaked and we've put the last one in hydro and will see how she does.
The soil one is really doing beautifully and will end up being our clone mom.
Related note: check out the cool new fluro set up we bought. The power plant clones also got too cold so we went ahead and planted them in soil and they are on suicide watch as well.
