i personally had to look up info about these 'hempy buckets' you speak of.

i must be missing something or am just not getting it :/

a hempy bucket is just a regular bucket, but you drill a hole in the side about 2inches from the bottom for drainage?

lol i do this as a natural instict, no terminology for it. if i dont drill a few holes in the bottom for drainage, its on the side. big whoop!

Hempy buckets have no drainage holes in the bottom; the hole in the side is only used to judge if the 2" reservoir at the bottom of the bucket is full. You add nutes until you get a little runoff out of the hole, then you know the res is full.
Some people like to call hempy's buckets "passive hydro", because they use a soilless medium (100% perlite, or a perlite/vermiculite mixture), they use hydro nutes instead of nutes for soil, you use hydro pH levels etc.
They are an awesome method, and generally will DOMINATE in a side-by-side grow with a soil plant. I stress the word dominate, because that's what happens. LOL

You got it........A sealed bucket......one hole on the side(anywhere from 1inch-2 inches from the bottom, depending on the size, but its no science...i dont even measure anymore)....cover the hole with some sort of mesh.....i personally use drywall tape.....

Medium:
use 100% perlite or 4 pts. perlite/ 1 pt vermiculite or coco and verm.....or turface.....or keep reading....ive even heard of someone using cat litter and perlite...i use 4 pts perlite/ 1 pt vermiculite....you can find them at home depot.....4 cu ft. bags both together cost $24

Nutes:
Use any type of nutes but run the ph at 5.8-6.0....i personally run fox farm hydro nutes.....but once again ive heard people run soil nutes, teas...you name it...its been run on hempy buckets...I personally start them around 600ppm/.5 conversion.....and get them to around 1300-1400 ppms.

Watering:

For the first few weeks probably around 3 wks.....water daily....then water every other day....

Thats about the best cliff notes i got for you.......Maybe Dooobster will chime in further......hes grown some dank in Hempy buckets

But is just a simple way of passive hydro....the medium acts as a wick....and the built in res. holds the water for a few hours...

I agree they will dominate a side by side soil grow...plus you can fix problems almost instantly because the medium holds very little nutes, and you water every other day if not daily

Hey dude. I put my hempy plants into flower on Friday and they are quickly filling up my grow box. I can't believe how bushy they grew. I have to move a bunch of leaves out the way just to see the main stem. My temperatures have been cold lately (15C/59F) but they are still growing like banshees. When the weather warms up I think they will really start to grow pubes.

Nice......you pollinated the WW from the last grow with the plant from the grow before that...if im correct....you still have the male....its the bushy lst'ed monster.....

The temps are still in the upper 90's here.....luckily the room i keep my grow in constantly stays at around 68F......but ill have to take a looksy after my blunt of haze which is just asking to be burned!

One more thing dooob.....how the pre baby days coming.....you almost prepared to have your life turned upside down! enjoy your time now!

Everything seems to be on overdrive now the plants are starting to smell quite peppery....nice-n-spicy....The large plant is starting to bulk up....I really dont have much to update than the clones are flowering nicely.....there are hairs everywhere....

Im quite thrilled with anything at this point both box probably cost me around $120 together and it looks like im going to yeild way more than that in chronic.....just goes to show people how cheap weed can be grown!

This box is made from a 26x26x26 inch box from office depot..

4 light fixtures and some CFL's total cost = $18

But really i had everything but the box so the real cost was about $6

Hahaha exactly... Actually, I pollinated the very first preflowers that appeared on the WW with some pollen from the big bushy LST'd monster...
I found 5 beans in the buds, but only 2 were mature enough. Both of them sprouted though! wo0ot wo0ot

The pre-baby days are going well brotha... 2 1/2 weeks to go. We've got the baby's room all set up & ready, we've got a BUNCH of diapers and wipes and all that crapola stocked up, we're ready to go

Wish I hit this log earlier. Never really thought to much into the hempy buckets, always thought there would be mold problems but it looks like you got it down. Maybe after I finish this aggro grow Ill make me a couple. Looking great!

Thanks jakezking.........im always in the path of hurricanes...you should know where i stay now......im a southerner for sure......the hempy's are just too easy....i really dont even have to try now.....its too fun, and more like a hobby than a job!

i cant even believe we didnt get a rain storm from IKE....i though for a min we were going to get hammered but all is good....i had both of the generators running....all the supplies.....i learned over the years....constantly getting battered by hurricanes....

im so excited for you about the baby...man it changes your life for the best....its a little tough, but man its worth it!......Package went out this morning should be your ways by weds.....look out for it!

me and dooobster have been preaching about the hempy's for the past 6 months now....they are so easy to grow in....ive never thought of mold.....but i definely believe in 10-15% runnoff to prevent sitting water in the buckets.....the buckets seem to dry out in like 6-8 hour though.

Hey DE.Db33t - You should really give the hempys a try bro... I've never had, or heard of anyone else having mold problems at all in them.

They're really just like a soil grow, except you use hydro nutes & pH levels... I'm tellin ya... hempy really hit on something good with this method. If you do a side by side grow with a hempy & a soil pot, you will see... the hempy will dominate.
Try it man, and if you have any questions or need guidance, please don't hesitate to ask.

im definately going to have to try this...there is no way im going to be able to use soil all winter and was thinking hydro of some sort... does it matter how big the container is for this method?

In my opinion, it doesn't matter what size container you use... One thing to keep in mind is that its tricky to transplant when using all perlite or perlite/vermiculite mix...
It can be done, ya just have to be careful. Starting them in a small, tall container like a soft drink cup, letting them get a nice root system, and then transplanting into the container it will finish in would be what I suggest.

I agree.......ive used the 8oz and 16 oz cups and both work........i just cut the bottom half off and placed them in there new homes.....it waste less nutes plus they hit the res very fast....i had NO problems trasplanting the hempys.....but i will say the cups were very rootbound....very rootbound....so much i didnt even see perlite or vermiculite....just roots....

On another note.....i will say this run i didnt transplant at all and i had very similar results...and the size of the container really doesnt matter but really dont go above 3 or 5 gal .....personally i wouldnt use a 5 gal...but ive read people using them.....in my 11 lt. mop buckets.....the plants are about 6-7 ft tall right now.....you dont need that big of a buckets when going hempy!

I will also do a side by side very soon....i still have a bag of FF ocean forest just chillen in the garage collecting dust.

The plant is getting fuller everyday......its smells like kinda pepper but gettin to smell like lemons in some areas.....close to the true top of the plant.....i figure another 28-35 days more or when the trichs completely turn 100% amber.....looking for that pure couchlock........The plant is exactly 59 Day from being a Dry Seed!!
