diesel ryder winter grow

Hi All So I have decided to start a new grow that will incorporate both inside and outside grow elements. I will be growing on our balcony but will be able to move it easily inside if it starts to get too cold something I don't think will be an issue for me. The strain I am going with is Diesel Ryder from Joint Doctor so they should finish between Xmas and New Years. I bought this small tiered greenhouse I plan on using only one two of the shelves but may use more depending on the spacing. I have two mylas emergency blankets that I will hang on three sides of the GH. I have ten 23 watt 6500k 1600 lumen CFLs plus some natural daylight. I am thinking that between the mylar and CFLs that they should be warm enough here in Cali typically our nights average in the mid to high thirties I may consider getting a heating pad but the space is going to be so small that I can't see it being necessary. So while I wait for my beans to arrive does anyone have any suggestions? Ideas? Thoughts? I am either going to use an 18/6 or 20/4 light cycle. I've only really grown in the summer in a gh and haven't tried an autoflower so if there are any quirks I need to worry about let me know. Thanks

Auto Ak 47 and Diesel Ryder grows

Okay the beans are germinating now. I have changed my mind on which autoflower strain I am going to grow in this mini greenhouse. I am going to grow auto AK-47 outside and will be growing the diesel ryder inside. The pots are 10".

Thanks. I've grown outside before but this is my first set up type grow. They are suppose to finish in 70 days and about 24 inches talls.

Are lowryders like a genetically engineered seed? or do you just cut them after the 2nd-3rd tier? im curious

Should, I think I may have screwed things up I am so pissed with myself. I had place the seeds in little jiffy pots last night and because it was a cold night I left in the the little pots and placed them in the oven (not on) with the oven's internal light on figuring the light would help stimulate the growth. Well I had no idea that that single light would be so warm as to dry them out. Anyway they are now out in the GH so hopefully something will grow....shit shit shit!

Hi Should, The rumors of their demise was greatly exaggerated(G) All seven have popped their heads. I am sure glad I didn't just dump them and restart. Here is a picture of a couple of them.

hahaitsdoogle, I am not sure I *think* that the auto flowering is a genetic trait that occurs naturally and bred to a dominant trait so that the majority autoflower in the lowryder strain. From there they have been crossing them with other strains and breeding the trait in them.

So here are some pictures they are now ten days from seed. I don't know if they are on track size wide or if they are a bit stunted because I have been having heat problems the grow area keeps hitting the nineties!

I'm happy your seedlings did ok. I did that myself this grow. I put the seeds in paper towel on a computer modem. Way hot, I had a lot of dead seeds and poor seedlings. I usually plant right in a windowbox type vessel and keep it near some heat source but it didn't work that way this time.

Good growing.

Shov, This time of year our weather can get a bit tricky days can hit the nineties nights high fifties. The CFL's are also heating up the grow space more then I could have anticipated so I am not too sure what to do.

Well, use a thermometer to keep an eye on the temp right where the plant is. You would like to see 'day' temps below 85* and 'night ' temps over 70*
I like to use a small box fan to blow on the plants. You could use a wet towel wicking water from a bucket as the fan blows across it onto the plants. That might bring is down the temp a bit and it's easy to set up. Or an air conditioner would be great...

Shov, I have a thermometer in there are it is too warm I would have never thought that the CFL's could generate as much heat as they do. I've got a fan going in there now and that is helping. Once our weather settles down to normal I should be okay.

So they are now three weeks old. One of the seven looks kind of iffy so I am not too sure if it will survive but the rest are looking good. My main question is am I on track are they growing at a typical rate for AFs

Seattle, This is my first try with an autoflower strain. So far I can say they do seem hardy despite my screw ups(G) I wish I knew if their growth rate is normal they do seem to be growing slower then I would expect but who knows. I also think they need more light.

Hi All, Well here are some new pictures. They are 3 weeks old now. They look okay to me but seem awfully small to me. I would have thought they would be at their max height now and starting to flower but as you all can sewe they are even close to it. They are about 2-3 inches tall now. Last watering I gave them some Fox Farm Grow Big at a 1/4 strength. Any ideas?

Hmm, I have a 2 week old plant (LR2) that looks like it's on its way to being a similar size as yours by week 3. I thought that because I'm only using a 2700K bulb that possibly this was the reason for mine growing so slowly but this doesn't explain why yours are going so slow.... possibly they'll continue to grow through some of their flowering period?
I'm not sure if that is good or bad since it's taking budding energy away from buds

I noticed you mentioned heat issues, this is something I've also had to deal with. The box has been reaching 31c and I'm sure sometimes it's been hotter than that from time to time but luckily the night temps are dropping below 0c now so that'll be helping since my vents go outside.

All the best

Oscar Mike

Firemansam, Surprisingly the heat issues haven't really affected them despite the fact that the temps got as high as 37c. I did up my lighting from 18/6 to 20/4 and that seems to working even the runt is starting to grow.
Shov, I guess I am panicing a bit(G) I've never grown or seen a grow of an AF I guess I was expecting them to be 2 feet by now(G)
Kack, Thanks the paln is to have a perpetual grow for the winter.

Hi All, So they are a month old now. They are growing....slowly. So far only the one plant has shown its sex as male.... As you can see their growth is fairly consistent in all of them.
