Talking CFL First Grow from Bagseed

Complete Cabinet Cfl Grow

Seeds: Regs Bagseed
Soil: Botanicare Cocogro
Nutes: FoxFarm Grow Big and Big Bloom
Light: 9 26 watt CFLs equaling roughly 900 regular watts
Ventilation: Intake Central Air Exaust 365 cfm inline fan
Odor Control: none atm
Closet/Cabinet: 34.5'x17.5'x71'
Vegetation: Started on 24/0 but soon moved to 18/6 light cycle

Ok. I didnt want to start a grow log too soon as it seems many people start and never finish.
March 3rd: Seeds were Germed. Germed about 15 all came out. Picked the best looking ones. 4 were planted.
Planted on the 6th into Miracle Grow 2 Month Feeding garbage soil. (i wish i took the advice of the forum and didnt use a pre mix, anyway). They were not proforming as well as i wanted in the first days so i took a trip to the local hydro shop and picked up some cocogro.
March 13th: Transpalnted into the Cocogro. Into 4' pots. Most are yellow from shock i am guessing.
March 29th: I started using FoxFarm Nuts at the 2 week point. Grow Big is all im using at the moment, but will start to add BigBloom very soon. All 4 are looking quite well with most having 5 fan leaves and starting to show their 7 fan leaves.

About 5 days ago i started to germ another batch of seeds, this time it was from some mids, Arizona. Planted them into the cocogro and they are looking good. About 2 days out of the soil now.

Sorry for not having pictures tonight, but i assure you tomorrow they will be up.

Picture Update: 26th Day since Germination

Its been 26 days since gem for the 4 bigger plants, and about 4 days for the ones in the cups. Some of the leaf tips are brown or yellow i think its from the stress of transplanted and using nuts too soon. I think i have it under control now though as the new growth looks amazing. Let me know what you think....

lookin' good. glad ya got them out of the auto feeding shit. But you should build a makeshift shelf under the babies in the beer cups. They are really stretched.(2-3 inches is ideal for CFL's, a little less than 2 inches if you can keep the temps at a constant 72.)

Loving the mylar though. Also, go by the actual wattage on the CFL's. 9 x 26 is what you're running. =) Hehe, another also. >.> Are ya ph'ing anything or just running with whatever your tap comes out at?

beSafe.

Thanks for stopping by.

Ya they are stretched cause i left them in the dark for too long. Im not very concerned right now, they will be strong plants.

Temps are running between 68-85 day and night.

I am ph'ing, tap water is 7 and im bring it down to about 6 before i use it.

Nice looking setup. Any plans on topping or training them?

I'm probably not the best person to ask that, seeing as my cab is only about 3' tall. If you want to see what happens when you top and train like a crazy person, check out the link in my sig.

Plants are looking great!

If I may add one thing... the clear plastic cups are not the best, because the roots will want to grow to the edges, but they don't like light. I'd cover up the sides of those cups with something light-proof.

Otherwise, keep up the good work, and keep us updated!

Kinda have to just go by feel... If you transplant too soon, the roots will be encouraged to spread and grow, which will slow down growth above ground. If you wait too long, you will get root-bound, which is not good at all. This explains it in a little more detail:

The importance of a continuous canopy: It's all about EFFICIENCY, baby!

I like to let the roots "bunch up" a little on the bottom of the cup before I transplant.

thanks, wen i just taped them up i could see the tap root at the bottom of the cup, i think im gonna give them another week max then move to bigger pots.

OH! when i was inspecting the plants i lifted one up and a fly came out from under it. i checked all the other girls and nothing. should i be worried about this or is it possible that it is just a single fly? Ive read about spidermites but have not heard anything about anyone with flies. thanks in advance

could be problem

I just had Sarcid flies/ fungus gnats they suck the problem isn't the flies its the larva that feed on the roots. I wound up with mine because i was keeping my soil to moist all the time. i think. Organicide at home depot is what Whiskytango recommended to me. used it and changed soil (when i re potted) that's how i got rid of them. But You need to look up pictures to see what kind of fly it was there are several others all of them are not really a good thing. if you don't see any more I wouldn't worry about it but take a close look at the fly and google "Cannabis pests" compare and it will tell you how to get rid of them.

The tap root tends to hit bottom far sooner than the rest of the root system, so you should still have a few days of growth in the cup at least.

i was thinking about topping them, but do you think its too soon?
and ive never done it before so i dont want to mess the plant up either.

i basically know you have to cut the new growth at the top as close to the two branches as you can. thats what i believe topping to be. which will then hopefully give you 2 colas instead of one. someone correct me please...
if anyone knows of a guide with clear pictures and instructions i would love that

i found this
Guide: Fimming and Topping made easy
but anything else would be great

make sure your plant has over 5 nodes before you start topping, unless your in constricted space!!

peace and goodluck

Looking very nice

You can probably start training soon, looks like you got 5 nodes in the first one at least, and looking very healthy!

ohh, coool, well i mean some plants show signs of sex in veg, but the reason its best to wait a whle before flower is because the plant usually only doubles in size during flowering (the rest of energy goes to bud sites).. so more budsites and fan leaves more budsites and buds and greater capital growth (total height) in the flowering stage.

meh thats just my 5 cents i guess look forward to the macro geeza,

peace,
Denial
