Day 5 seedling

$Day5.jpg

Not much to see at this stage.

Let the coco dy out from germination until this morning. Water only to all pots just until start of runnoff.

They were stretching a bit so I dropped the lights to 4" from growing tip.

Kandy Kush and Blueberry Hash have bluish/purple stems. They are on the right.
G13 and Laughing Buddha are green stemed. They are on the left.

For general reference:

Laughing Buddha: Thai x Jamaican
G13: G13 x Hawaiian
Kandy Kush: OG Kush x Arcata Train Wreck
Blue Hash: Blueberry x California Hash Plant

SauceeMcgee:
The basil grow is doing great. I gave 17 of 18 to friends and am DWC the remining one in the clone bucket. It went from 4 leaves to 20 in 3 weeks. I already harvested 4 large leaves for a salad (they were hogging the light anyway) and the plant is thriving.
I forgot to tke a photo of it but will post one in the newar future.

That's it for now.

That's awesome!

I love basil. I just made some really good tea the other day with some basil and some lemon thyme I have growing.

Here's the recipe:

For every cup of water boiled, add 1 tbsp of chopped fresh basil (.5 tbsp if dried) and 1 tbsp lemon thyme (.5 tbsp if dried). You can also add some lemon verbena to that to make it even better, but I didn't have any....

Either way, it is really really good. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I really should have spread my basil out more than they are now because the pot I have them in is not big enough for 11 plants.... Either way, they are doing fine. I also have a rosemary plant that is just taking off from seed, it's really awesome.

Anyway, that's enough out of me.

Good work,

SMG

P.S. - I like the Jade in the background

Well I'll be...

I've been growing basil for 50 years and never had any brewed as tea!
I'm gonna have to try that, thanks.

The Jade you see in the background was given to me as a cut, just two leaves at the start. Now it's over 10 nodes high and has 4 to 6 branches on each plant in 8 months! Also in that picture is some catnip, chamomile and marilgold seeedlings.

I also have cocoa trees and a baobab tree as well as the usual ficus and elms. On of my favorites is an European Larch, which is a connifer that looses it's needles every winter.

I guess you can say I'm a growing fool!

I can empathize with your love for growing plants! I work in a greenhouse and am constantly surrounded by rare species of orchids that are UNBELIEVABLY gorgeous in bloom and plenty of other bizarre plants!

Let me know when you try that tea recipe, it seems to be very buttery somehow. I find it interesting.

And the plants look nice btw, I'm curious to see how your Kandy Kush turns out.

Cheers,

SMG

SauceeMcGee,
Tending plants is a grounding experience for me. It makes me feel better just being around them and watching them thrive.

Hope, if you will...

My Kandy kush plants are very nice specimines. Their leaves are wide and symetrical with a pleasing shape and geometry. It's almost gonna be a shame to flower these individuals and I will almost surely clone them because they are so beautiful that they deserve to live on.

I would grow these even if they weren't medicine.

I'll let you know when I make some basil tea, it's almost tea drinking season again!

sccrocks:

They are still growing and I sometimes don't feel up to posting...
No actual picures more that at least once a week.
Not much else unless there's some significant event either, sorry...
Unless anyone has a specific question. Nothing really cutting edge here.

M.P.

Week 6

Group Shot.jpg

Group shot taken on Set 19.

4 coco grow plants transplanted from 3 1/2" to 6" pots with no hesitaition in growth. This time I flushed the coco until it was about eqaul to tap water (160ppm). The coco straight out of the bag had a runoff of 2200 ppm and took about 8 flush cycles to bring it down to acceptable levels. It made all the difference in the world.

The Roadrunner seedling did not make it.

Busy week in the grow room comming up.

See you next update.

W.T. FF?
What brand of coco is that?
Does it say it's pre-treated with CalMag?

I'm using Botanicare blocks and have to add Calmag on the first soak,
then I add 1/2 strength nutes to the first water to condition the coco but I've never actually tested runoff from a fresh potting.
I sure will tomorrow, though.
Thanks.

Aloha,
Weeze

Sorry about the brief answer, but was heading out for Radiation Treatment.

I don't think it was Cal Mag, but rather sea salt.

The EC of the coco put my grow back two weeks at least!

around week 2-3:
The leaves were turning yellow and dying off, so I flushed the pots several times until the runoff was relatively clear (vs tea colored) and went off to buy my EC meter. I transplanted one each G13xhaze and Kandy Kush tomy DWC bucket in desperation.

However the flush did the trick. The differece was night and day. My seedlings started to grow again and get greener.

Fast forward to week 6... Flush first after the initial runoff readings... before using adittional coco in transplanting. Everything much smoother fterdoing so.

YMMV depending on the brand I would think...

The bag did say 100% organic and sea salr is, so truth in advertising is still alive and well. Beter to test and rest assured.

Unhappy Salted nuts?!

Big Mahalo fo' dat!

Never occured to me that some buggah would get lazy and use seaside nuts to make coir.
At least not without rinsing the hell out of it.

That high a ppm of salt should be tasteable.
Went out to taste-test mine and found that I had expanded the last batch with CalMag and 1/2 strenght nutes for transplanting. Ptooi!
It will wait 'til I tear into another block.
But, have had so few problems that I've become complacent.

Just 'cause the last block was OK...

There may be some variability from batch to batch even with the Botanicare, so it will pay to check it right out the gate.
So, I gonna do dat.
Thanks for the head's up.

Aloha,
Weeze

Smile Hey, guys...FYI

Quote:
Nuted, lightly Calmag'ed and pH'ed water (bottled / well mix) to 1400ppm, pH 6.3.
This was from my soil vs. coco experiment.

Running that nute solution fairly quickly through new, unrinsed Botanicare coco raised the EC conversion to 1580ppm.

Neglected to taste it, though.

Nudder t'ing!

Pulled a bloomer girl from the LED bloomery and eased her into the sunlight for a day.
Then full sun for 2 days.
When I put her out, the trichs were 90% cloudy with some very rare ambers.

After just 2 days, the sugar leaf was almost 50% amber trichs! Yikes!
Chopped and hung.
Be about a week to dry enough to test right.

But from that reaction, I'd say my girl was either over ripe, or defenseless against UVb.
Makes sense when you consider that clear trichs don't absorb the short wavelengths like the cloudy ones do.

Normally, they are less affected, and as they ripen, as soon as they cloud up they get zapped and are being replaced by new clear caps over time.
Harvest time and timing is important outdoors!

Under leds, they can all ripen to cloudy without being zapped by the UV.
That explains the thicker trich carpet and thc percentage, vs. CBD & CBN.
Dunno if the sunlight will make the high thumpier or not.

Will compare it to the sample taken just prior to her solar debut.
Yay! Another bake-off!

It's all factoids,
to store
in our memory's hoard.
We use them,
to help us,
to find the lost fnord
Muahahaha!

Aloha.

Week 7

!!Grow 9-25.jpg
Back G13xHaze
Front Kandy Kush

These are the two plants that we in 6" coco last update. They were transplanted last Saturday into 6" net mesh DWC bucket tops on 5 gal buckets. They have literally exploded and are now 14 1/2" tall. Given the present growth patern they will need to be flipped to flowering by Monday, so this is probably the last pic of them in veg stage

DWC so far has been great in terms of labor and growth ratio.

Update on the rest later this weekend.

Italiano thanks for the friend invitation.
Shake, I'm off to the UPS store tomorrow.

Good vibrations until the next update...

"R" October 1 picture update

!!Grow 10-1.jpg

Quote:
Classic stretch of the OG Kush that bulks up and fills out like the TW to give you OG flavor and TW nugs
Plant on the left front is Kandy Kush and the stretch is indeed crazy long at 24" tonight...
All the plants share the same light, nutrients, etc for reference. I'm hoping the rest of the description is accurate.

3 of the plants have proved out female, waiting on the rest...

All were feminized seeds.

Questions? I just don't know at this point what may be interesting to anyone.

Heck, I'm a farmer...
With an engineering degree and experience 'till I gave it up.

BTW very dank smell'n in the room, zero outside.

Hey MP,

I've been gone quite some time, been REAL busy lately.

Thought I'd stop by and say I admire your progress and thoroughly enjoy the little nugs popping up out of nowhere on your KK plant haha.

Looks beautiful,
