And if you're gettin heat like we are in Tx, a layer of mulch or straw, etc will help hold moisture. Otherwise, my plants' soil evaporates faster than its absorbed. Just lookin out.

    Stay Lit
Thats a good idea just watch what you are using. Pine straw will drop the ph severely. Blueberry bushes, for example, like ph around 4 so pine straw helps with them. Just a little info i picked up this year

Thanks guys. Tryin to do what I can. I will try the mulch. I had heard some bad things about it causing problems with mold n fungus, and rot, so I didnt use it, bit if you guys say its good, I trust you, so off I go tp get some. Pulled another male today, also, looked just like the other one. Little clusters. Girls dont do that, huh. Just 1 lil flower/ calyx? Thanks for all the help. Think I got 1 lookin to be girl, bit I gotta wait a lil longer to tell. Wish I had a better camera....

Like i said just research what you use. I personally dont use anything to cover the soil for like you said, i fear mold, pests etc. Some do , some dont. Its nothing for me to go outside and water. Part of the job. If you do decide to go with mulch, try a couple to see how well it does.

Females youll see little white hairs coming from where your are seeing clusters.

You'll have enough time to tell the males before they start droppin pollen.

Sorry man, no pics yet. Pourin rain here, and I really aint up to trekkin thru the jungle in a storm to take a few pics. I dont think its anything too serious, so they will be ok. I gave em a weak fert mix last evening, and now with the rain, ill check on em tomorrow, and see how they are doin, and take some pics if they still look a lil weak. My mutant plant has turned out to be the best lookin one, and a plant I burned with nutes that topped itself is doin good. Got 3 main stems on it now. Hope its a girl.... 3 colas?!? Its a lil small, think it got stunted by the trauma, but its pullin thru. Thanks for all the help!

If they've grown a good bit since the last pic, They're probably old enough to start a feeding schedule as well.

I always fed every other watering, starting at 1/2 strength at this stage. Especially since your medium doesnt have many nutes to start with. What you did feed may have been leached out by the heavy rain you mentioned.

How often do you plan to go out there? I live in deep south as well (south Tx) and grow a variety of veggies outside in 3 gallon pots. I have to water Every day, and I use MG every third watering. So i was just a little concerned for ya here.. If its a good trek to your spot, I was thinkin you may wanna plant em in the ground instead so youll have to water/feed less frequently.

    Just a thought

Grow looks good so far. I'd pickup a magnifying glass at radio shack, 5x or 10x should be plenty, this will help you when determining sex as well as inspect the leaves for parasites and things you cannot see with the naked eye.

Have you just considered planting them in the ground? Might help ease the watering issue once they get larger. I've seen people make 'buckets' out of chicken wire then place the chicken wire shell into a pre-dug hole, then transplant it into the hole with the chicken wire. I've heard this helps with groundhogs and such (don't know how bad they are in Alabama).

Looking good! Also have you considered topping them to produce more yield? Especially since you are outside and you dont have to be concerned with height as much as us indoor growers.

Topping/lst/fim/pinching/etc doesnt increase yield, that is a myth. The plant would produce the same amount either way.
These techniques just help prevent vertical growth, giveing other parts of the plant to get more light.

I have thought about goin into the ground, but the dirt here is terrible. I had a tomato in the ground for 2 months, watered it, took careof it and it almost died. 2 weeks ago I moved it into the same dirt im usin, and its exploded. 10 times the size. With the same care.. Dont really wanna dig out dirt and backfill with good cuz im gettin over sugery, and cant really do it. Plus, we do get the occsional chopper thru here, so I couldnt have a big crop. Have to spread em out. Thats alot of holes! 20 to 30. Not worth it to me, I guess. I do need a magnifier, tho. Next time I go to town ill get one. So looks like I will have to water n feed alot. Hit 118 here with heat index today. That cant be good for em. At least it rained so I dont have to water today. Ill give em a light nute mix tomorrow, and look em over really good. Try to take some pics. I think they look ok. Thanks for all the help!

Well, took a walk this morning. Bad news: my 4 ft monster was showin boy, so he got the chop. Also found 6 more males. Good news: found my first confirmed girl. Seen her lil hars. Also got a bunch that are alternating nodes, and not showing yet. I think this is good, as they say females show later. Hit em with a light nute mix. Lookin pretty good. Bugs are under control, seem to be growin good. Whoo hooo!

Well, took the phone with me today and snapped these pics of one of em. These are the only ones that turned out good. Got 3 showin pistils, but this is the furthest along. Only doin it at the top, now. Startin to get excited! Should I switch nutes now? If so, what NPK am I lookin for?

    flowering nute help

anyone?????? really need help on what kind of NPK numbers i need to look for in flowering nutes. the ones i see at the stores are like 55 phosphorus. seems a bit much to me. anyonegot some input for me. plants are kinda small, so i dont wanna go hard with em, but i want em to grow as much as possible, so i get more bud sites. i dont have tons of money, so if someone could give me some advice,or a cheaper, readily available product idea, i would appreciate it alot......

I just picked up some flora bloom from my local hydro store, the numbers on the front are 10-5-10, is that what you are looking for?

You want a higher N for veg, and higher P-K for flower.
-When plants start showin a lighter green, they are low on N.

Fox Farm Trio is pretty much fool proof for beginners.

If you cant find any of the suggested nutes listed in the stickies, then go with nutes for tomatoes.
-mapquest 'hydroponics' for ur area, you might be surprised. I know I was, there are about 6hydro stores around my area.

Well, I think ill end up with like 6 or 8 girls. I tbink they are kinda small, but its ok. I started late. I will order some good nutes for next year, and start 2 months earlier. Got a few pics of some of the little buds. Not gonna get too big of a yield, but I learned alot. Last pic is of a lil baby lizard I found chillin out on one of the plants. Guess he likes weed, too!
