Well they are all mixed up...The bushier ones are Bubble Gum froma baggie that i found a seed in and made clones...the short stubby bushy one is Northern Cali Funk brought from a baggie out of Cali. There is also some LSD from BOG seeds in there aswell!! They all have great highs!! I am waiting to see which works best under this lamp!!

T5's kick ass, i have a 6 light 2' fixture for vegging. Hardly any heat, if any, and good dense groth under it.

The T5's are completely different from the T8's because they have an electric ballast and the electric ballast has a higher, quicker, constancy light projection. Or to put it another way when you use the old T8 fixtures which use a magnetic ballast they don't cycle as fast and the light actually has a slight flicker that takes place. This flickering, though unnoticeable to our eyes does affect the plant growth. I can get more technical, but this is the basic difference, besides the T5's have higher lumens, and less heat, but yes indeed do cost more. But don't get me wrong, people have put together some really nice T8 set ups and had good success with them and, what a T8 4 bulb fixture runs for about $50? Some people love that facter and hook it up without any regrets. So to each his own.

Im the type of person who much rather just go out and buy the finished project instead of going through any trial and error....I mean if you know a lot about electricity and can put it together easily then go for it....Like my fellow smoker just said ...To each his own...

This is very interesting...Very. (<---I'm serious)

im doing my best to keep some beautiful plants all the way through to the end...This light proves itself more and more as the budding process progresses...
Fishens, I used the 3000k bulbs from the begging and will continue to use them throughout the rest of the flowering cycle. if you gotm...smokm |

yeah man, these things are awesome. I know a guy who has one. I went to his house to buy his old 1000 watt MH/HPS light and he showed me that Tek-5 8 bulb fixture he bought. He turned it on and i couldnt even look at it... he turned it off and said "it didnt even warm up yet" So anyway, i bought the 1000 HID from him and still have not used it. I want a T5 setup mainly because of the heat issues of the HID and besides, im not gonna be growing enough plants to justify using 1000 watts HPS. I have a National garden wholesale catalog with the Tek-5 fixtures in it, there are these new ones that have 8 bulbs and 2-150w HPS bulbs in it, both can work together or independantly. I think i want that one.

In my opinion, if you are a casual grower (herbs for the head) one of these lights will work perfect for you...This is like the 5th case of people turning in their 1000watter for one of these lights...But I like many had to see it to believe it and make the investment...the t5 with the HPS sounds tempting, but then i think about my electric bill...but to be honest with you even if I didnt have to deal with electricty I think I would stick with the regular version because of the almost NO heat facto....Smoke On Brothers!!

I first got 4 t5 two bulb strips, but two broke some mystery way after like 2 weeks. Needless to say I scratched that idea for 800watts of hps/mh

You mentioned its cheaper (electricity wise) with the T5s but you also said its 400 watts...and watts is watts when it comes to the bill so it should be the same. Also how many lumen's does each bulb put out....I have a veg/clone setup with about 6200 lumen's, 3100 per bulb. I decided to use that in lieu of my MH and flower them under my 400 Watt HPS.

T5's aren't cheaper. A 400 watt HPS with Hortilux bulb puts out 55,000 lumens. A T5 eight-bulb system puts out 40,000 lumens for 432 watts (54x8) of electricity useage. So, the HPS light puts out more lumens, for less cost on your electric bill. You can also just use a $10 bulb with the HPS light (albeit with less light output than a Hortilux bulb, but still more light than the T5). I don't know how much eight of those T5 bulbs cost, but I imagine it's more than $1.25/bulb.
No matter how you cut it, an HPS system (of equivalent wattage) generates more light, uses less electricity, has better canopy penetration, and in a pinch you can replace your bulb for ten bucks. The big advantage of a T5 seems to be that it generates less heat than a HPS light. But if you can handle the heat of a HPS light, I don't see a lot of reason to flower with T5s, although they're probably okay for ScroG. They'd probably make nice sidelights if you hung them vertically, in conjunction with a primary HPS light. They do seem like they'd be nice for vegging, since you don't need as much light then as you do during flowering, and young plants are more sensitive to heat.

Hey fishen, Tico is the guy you want to talk to. Although I will answer your question:P You should use the 3000K for flower, but yes you can use it for veg, just not as effective. .....And on a personal note , this thread just got grrrreat.(as tony the tiger puts it)
