if i introduce my plants to 8 hours light 18 hours dark right away will it decrease the bud sites on my plants? i am going to give them lots of light once they have begun to budd.

The best way to flower/bud your girls is to give 12 hours light and 12 hours dark

yes, AFTER a reasonable vegetative phase, usually 6-8 weeks ... anything less, drastically affects yield ...
