    CAn autoflowering plants grow outside

Can autoflowering plants grow outside all year long, considering it doesn't get too cold? I want to get some regular autoflowering seeds(looking at short stuff's strains) make my own seeds and then just grow a few plants every ~12 weeks all year long. I live in the south, last winter temps never even got below freezing

Sure they can, I have 10 outside right now.

I planted them in late May/June in the hope I get the best summer months during the bloom. So it will veg for May/June and bloom for July, Aug and maybe some of September.

Technically you can plant autoflowers whenever you like as the tilt of the earth and the shortening of the days are not key to inducing bloom. It is a genetic trigger.

You will of course find that your yields will be much smaller than the summer during the colder days which have less sunlight. More light and heat = more bud.

So go for it, and keep us posted. Oh, by the way, I planted a very hardy autoflower called Mataro Blue Feminised Autos. This plants is very hardy and genetics are Siberian !

That might be the seed for you. Talk to the member Cannabis Seeds on this site. He/She will let you know how to get them through the Rhino Seed Company.

I always shop with them, discrete packaging and fast postage. The seeds are wicked powerful. You can check my grow journal in my signature. Look for grow no. 2.

The plants I have in my tent aren't autos. They are Blue Cheese x 2, Chronic x 1 and Big Bang 2 x 1. Yummy !!!

    Good luck my friend

another question, is making female seeds with autos the same process as with regular breeds? Like stressing a female into growing balls n then letting it pollinate another female? Or is it more complicated than that?

it'll be a few months before i start all this. im living with my parents again but i have some land out in the country im gonna put a small house on. Just saving up some money right now

There are a few ways to do it.

You could stress the hell out of it with light, lsting, topping, etc etc.

You could let the feminised plant continue to bloom until it produces nanners. These are the plants final resort, to pollinate itself. They are referred to as bananas.

Thirdly you could use the silver ion method, but this makes the plant unsmokable. The seed banks use this method.

Another I would say... then you get 100% female.

You can do most autos outside - depending on whether they're partially automatic or fully automatic, you don't want to start them inside while it's cold and then move them outside as the weather warms up.

This can trigger partials to start blooming too early.

I believe that Short Stuff's are all fully autoflowering, so you should be OK.

If you're going to propogate your own seeds and plant outdoors, I wouldn't worry too much about feminizing them - especially if this is for your own use. It would be a lot of effort for a very little payoff - in my personal opinion.

You'd be better off keeping a mother plant inside and learning how to clone - or learning how to get your plants to give you a second or third harvest. To be honest, I'm not sure how either of those work with autos - maybe someone else here has tried it.

i was under the impression you can't clone an auto being its flowering isn't dependent to the light cycle. how do you stop an auto from flowering?

    You can't clone an Auto.

What Cannabis-Seeds means is to keep one plant, a regular, feminised plant, in veg indoors all the time. From that you can take a practically unlimited amount of cuttings/clones.

When the mother becomes too big put it outside, but take one clone and start the mothering process again. Some say a strain becomes weaker after 4 generations but think of all the plants you would have cloned by then !

So Cannabis-Seeds just gave you a great tip I think. You could experiment with the different methods of creating feminised seeds of your own, but I think the method Cannabis-Seeds mentioned would be the most economical and sturdy.

However, this idea is strictly seasonal as you would be putting the regular, feminised cutting out at the beginning of each summer. What I think you want to do is have different crop cycles of autos 'all year round'. Maybe you could look into forcing a few autos to give seeds then. But if you are going to do that be sure you get the best genetics... This will be important as this gene will be staying with you for a while...

    Take care

of course u can grow autos outside. u dont need a light cycle, so y bother buying a light and growing it inside. also light from the sun is better anyway for the plant. if your going to grow it outside, then grow it during the summer months, thats the best time to start growing.

well it might be possible, ive never heard of anyone getting more than one harvest out of just a single auto though. if u succeed in getting more than one harvest out of it then post sum pics, and share with ur fellow smokers and growers on how u went about doin it. i was gonna buy sum autos online before and sell half the harvest so i could buy more seeds for anouther harvest. that would be an easier way for u to go about doing it, probably faster too.

I wasn't sure if you could clone or not clone - so thanks to SL for schoolin' me.
I'm here to learn more in addition to promoting our site, so its all good.

And, I think you can't stop an auto from flowering - that's why you don't start them inside too early and move then outside.
From a personal experiment with getting a second harvest from a plant, we didn't so much as stop it from flowering as harvest it and cut it way back - something we learned from a website. Worked like a charm, but the plant was awesome to begin with.

Everything I know about Autos, I've read. I've been too busy for the past few years to try any DIY projects.

And, depending on how far south you are, you might be able to get a few harvests in - some breeders are claiming you can get two harvests a year outside with non-autos if you're in a "mediterraean" type area.

I'm thinking maybe 3 with really fast autos? Year-round outside would probably be pushing it a little bit unless you're in an area like southern Florida or California.

Here's another tip for you - look for the time that it takes to finish from seed. A lot of breeders will give the finish times for flowering only and leave out the veg stage.
That'll take something that you think will finish in 8 weeks or less up by another month.
