When I can't sleep I take pills called "Kalms" they relax me so I can get to sleep, I've just looked and the main ingredient is hops powder.

after getting my first grow set up, I began thinking how cool it would be to grow my own hops and brew my own beer.

^^ twocamaros hops bred with lowryder... I don't buy it... I think his lowryder went hermie and he didn't notice. Let's see pics of the plant that grew.

Also, WILD DAGGA or LIONS TAIL WEED is a good substitute. Tastes kinda nasty, but has a high very similar to cheap weed. You can grow your plants out in the open, and use them as an extender for your weed, in hash making, etc.

where can you get hops?

Brewing supply shops, and even the 'legal herb' vendors! They may be called 'cannabacea' if you buy them as 'legal herbs'.
Or you can look around if you have a local microbrewery/pub, most places around here anyway grow hops as an ornamental up the side of the building, and they are coming ripe at this time of year. They are pretty easy to grow, and hardy to at least zone 5, possibly even zone 4- I don't feel like looking it up, lol.

I've been going to the herb shop in town and picking out different things and coming home, looking them up online, then if I find out that its definitely not toxic and others have smoked it, I'll try it. During my search I've found; California Poppy, Damiana, and Lemon Balm gave me a satisfying effect (which is huge for me because I've been an a.m.>p.m. smoker for over 10 years with a massive craving for bud).

I also found out about Lion's Tail flowers which seems to be touted as the closest to bud and hops always comes up in the search for alternatives.

When I got to the brewer's supply I was pleased to see that a really good friend of mine was working there and so I told him what I was trying to do. A little wierd at first, but he smokes more than I do and understood my plight with peaked intrest. I was thinking that Northern Brewer's Hops would be the best since thats the type of beer I prefer, but he turned me on to the strongest hops they had called "Magnum Hops". They smell potent as hell. I also got some "Cascade Hops" for variety since the "Northern" was in pellet form. The following results are from the "Magnum Hops" smoked in a glass pipe with a medium size bowl.

As I write, I've just returned from the brewer's supply and wish to give my report. So here we go...........

1st hit: a bit harsh, but certainly has qualities of high-grade bud.
2nd hit: easier than the first, less of a green taste, obviously.
3rd: had very little harshness and was actually sweeter...probably due to the resin

At this point I sat back and talked to my girlfriend and felt a slight head change, similar to bud and pleasing.

The Last Hit: Obviously the resin hit, expanding in the chest and more of a head shot than the other hits.

Overall, it is very similar to weak (schwag) bud. I think that I will mix the Damiana Leaf with the hops next time. It seems to have more of an effect and the hops have the green taste....so the combination should be quite pleasing. I hope that this has been entertaining if nothing else and hope everyone has fun with their experiments and keeping us all posted. Thanks a lot, fellow heads!

Slightly more stoney with the second bowl. Like everyone else's experience, ready to lay down and go to sleep. Certainly an effect of smoking hops.

Will post again if any radical difference with the "Cascade Hops", etc.

It seems like the dehydrating effect that hops have when drinking hoppy beer is present with smoking hops as well. This works against my own personal sleeping needs and is the reason I don't drink. Unfortunately, I'm not able to feel the same motivation to try more due to muscle aches and stomach cramps. This is my own personal chemistry and I wouldn't try to subscribe my decision to anyone else. Sticking to the sticky-icky. I think that the Damiana Leaf mixed with California Poppy has a better overall effect. Will check back in when I get my hands on some Lion's Tail Flower.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I would like to share some thoughts on Damiana for folks that are looking into that.

Its been my experience that the buzz is cool, not quite bud, but certainly psyco-active effects. It tastes a little funky, I don't know for sure but it may be a high DMT content in the leaves. Its not nearly as puitred as DMT though, just the only reference I can come up with. Since the first day I tried smoking Damiana Leaf I've had extremely vivid dreams that bring up people that I've been close to over the years and are either not around me now, or have passed away. If Salvia is the "See-er's Sage" then Damiana has to be the "Dreamer's Sage". Be careful, this seems to have the effect of bringing out things that are already there, but you are repressing. If there are memories of pain and violence, I'm not sure this would be the best thing unless you are ready to deal with those issues head on. Just one guy's opinion, take it as you will. i recently got a lowryder clone from a friend (so he says thats what it is called) and i have been growing it for about 25 days unnder 24hour light. just one plant. i just started to do 18 hr on and 6hr off yesterday. i am curious about a few things. i have just used nutrient added soil and a grow light. i have the proper equipment, but what i was wondering if; 1. It was possible to have a female clone of a lowryder? 2.What am i supposed to be looking for now? it hasn't began budding/blooming yet and i wanna make sure i'm doing the right things. this is my first time with this type of plant. from my understanding the plant is pretty simple to grow. 3. Since this is a clone will it not be as potient? please help, before i fuck up too many things. there were big leafs on it, the tips were turning brown so i cut them off. bud doesn't grow on them anyway.

We grow hops and i can tell you if you make a tea from hops or you will be verrrrry sleeeeepy. Definitely works! No experience smoking them. How did they taste? They smell amazing!

You almost cant tell them apart during the beggining of flower. I had no idea they had any kind of effect though. I have pounds of the shit.

xanax is one of the most crazyest druggs. i remember i took seven of the little ones on the busride to skool cause my friend just popped out with them they hit me b4 i even got off the bus i walked really slow and drunkilly but my friend had took over 30 threw out the day. when u do that for a few days you will have a withdrawel. it wasnt no xany Bar it was just the singles. low dosage.

I've found Hops Hash online store. Is this reasonable price of hops hash? Is there any difference between hops from New Zealand and hops from US? any suggestion?

I realize this is an older post but I have had such a good experience with hops I wanted to share. I buy them from a local natural food/herb store. They are 2.00 an ounce and they work wonderfully for anxiety and sleep disorders. They work very well as a tea (pour boiling water over a Tablespoon and steep for 10 minutes) but I couldn't stand the taste. So now I vaporize them at about 1/2 the power of what I vaporize cannabis. Helped me get off xanax.

Do you recommend smoking this out of a joint, pipe, or bong?
Also, would you grow your own with a rhizome or just buy a few oz. Of dried hops on eBay?
