hi all, ive been frequenting these forums for a few months here trying to get all the info before i start my first hydro grow. ive tried in dirt a few times and normally over water or over / under fert and kill everything. however, ive been keeping fish in planted tanks for years now and im wondering how this experience with keeping ph and dissolved nitrate and nitrites under control will help with keep the ph and ppm concentrations in check. has anyone else here kept fish and then started growing hydroponically? how'd it work for you?
oh, btw, my grow space is 2x4x6 and im planning on growing two clones in seperate 5 gallon bubblers under a 400 or 600 watt mh light for veg and flower.

any suggestions are welcomed, and keep checking back cause ill be putting up a grow log as soon as i get started. i have nothing but love for the community, thanks everyone!

Over or under watering in hydro is not usually something you have to worry much about. Neither is over or under fertilizing, as long as you start low and slowly work your way up, follow directions, read the info about additives before using them, and use a PPM meter. Most people tend to over do it, so if anything, start by under doing. Also you're going to want a PH pen or stick, which you probably already have if you're a big time fish farmer.

I too have an aquarium, but it's only 10 gallons. Aquariums and hydro are only similar in that you have to adjust and/or watch your PH, and the water occasionally needs to be changed out so your TDS and what not don't get too high. Other than that, I don't see many similarities.

As far as suggestions, can't really think of any except to look into sog or scrog growing. You get to harvest twice as often this way. I know you are thinking "I'm not going to worry about that, because I'll have plenty of weed by harvesting every 4 months". Wrong. At least not in that space and with 2 plants. Besides you always want piles of extra weed around so that you can cook with it. It's a much better high, and you don't have to put smoke into your lungs. People, you don't need to tell me that you enjoy that part of it. I know some of you do. So don't cook with weed then, unless you want to experience a real high for once.
