hi, im planning on starting an attic grow, but i have been trying to think of ways to make it as stealth as possible.
so since the helicopters scan for heat using ir (infared) beam that cannot pass through led. could i get led tiles on my roof and be invisible to the helicopters?
or line the inside of the attic with somee form of led?

forget the 'infra-red beams' etc bullshit ... Im not even going to explain, but forget it ... your only worries in an attic grow is HEAT ... attics typically become ovens in even warm weather ... overcome the heat issue, and dont worry about the rest ... good luck ...

as i was not to sure if my attic had vents i asked someone i know about getting vents fitted, and they said that i wont be able to get it done as it will leak and flood the house.
just wondring if this is true, and if i can get vents fitted, who can i get to do it?

Flood the house from what? In theory, if you simply cut the siding to size and fit a vent into place, rain water can seep through the siding roll down the paper and get to the wood instead of continuing all the way down to the weep screed at the bottom.

So technically you should cut back the siding enough to flash the vent properly then redo the siding. But you're not going to do that, and in all likelyhood you will never see a problem.

Was that what your friend meant?

dont put lead in your house. it totally moots the point of lead free paints, toys etc.

helicopters aint gonna look at your house, and even if they do, its gonna take more than a couple dozens plants and several killowats of light

If you pay someone to put a vent in your house, make sure you have things very clearly spelled out in writing. Have a set time it will take. I don’t know who you were talking to, but they had no idea what they were talking about. You can’t put a vent in an attic? What the hell kind of nonsense is that? It’s done all the time and it’s a piece of cake. I suppose next you’re going to tell me it’s impossible to install a skylight. It’s real easy to do it and have the vent(s) not leak. Now keep this to yourself, but here’s the secret… You do it correctly!

If you choose to do it yourself it’s no problem if you have a little common sense and an ability to operate a jig saw. If you have not operated a jig saw and are apprehensive about doing so, keep in mind they are nothing to be afraid of. I’m assuming that you have not done this before, so you go to Home Depot or something and buy a book concerning the subject. There’s a great one that I highly recommend, called “The Complete and Simplified Guide on How To Install Skylights and Vents in an Attic for Dummies”. This is an awesome read, even if you aren’t planning on doing any projects. I think it’s also available at the library.

I am not a wiz with tools or anything, and I put a vent in the side of my house, which has Hardiplank siding (concrete and fiber). Haven’t had a problem so far, 5 years running. Putting one in your roof is slightly more difficult, but not a problem if you do it right. Read up or ask an expert to explain it thoroughly. Not the guy you talked to before.

And yeah, no lead. It’s bad news.

And who can you get to do it? I would say a roofing company would be the place to call if you are going through the roof (I know I am right now), or a siding installation place, or a perhaps an HVAC company would be best of all. Yeah, I choose Heating Venting Air Conditioning.

I am going to assume that your house was built to code, but I know it's just as plausible that it's not. If it was, and maybe even if it wasn't, I'm guessing your attic has vents.

Can you please explain,as I am a very paranoid grower,the space ive sectioned off for my growroom is insulated on the outside wall and the ceiling,leaving only 3 small walls,that are inside my house, un insulated,but yet im still scared the eye in the sky can still maybe see me?

All you need is a vent with a top, make sure the edges of the vent are raised 1/4" or so above roof level. Then secure a top that will overlap the edges of the vent a couple inches....you could always install a fake air register and pull air from the bottom of the attic through it also....you could also just use a vent that looks like an upside down J with the intake pointing toward the roof top.

Many options....don't forget to seal it up good.

Unless you have a large operation then don't worry about choppers, if that's too much to deal with for you then consider another hobby.

Here in the USA, the Supreme Court has ruled that random, infra-red searches by aircraft constitute a warrantless search - so a search warrant is necessary and if LEO has a search warrant, they wouldn't bother with a helicopter, they'd just knock down your front door.

Make sure you install flashing as well and seal well with that nasty tar roof sealer. You don't need flashing, unless you want to keep water out.

And yeah, as long as you stay with just a few plants in a closet or something, you've got nothing to worry about. They are much more likely to look at your electric bill than your infared signiture. If your usage doesn't rise drastically and obviously, you don't have to worry.

If you don't know much about construction you should have someone that does install it. There are certain principles at play as far as weatherproofing and I'd hate to see you fuck up your house.

I grew in (what turned out to be a shittily constructed attic) many many years ago and could see the light through cracks that went 360degrees around the house. lol. and that was before it was all legal. Don't sweat the choppas.

If you can find the exuast vent from your bathrooms exuast you can tie in to it. It goes outside the roof and there should be one if not then your house isnt up to code. Thats what I tie into to vent outside. To have avent installed in your roof call a roofer or find a handyman in the yellow pages or do it yourself just got to home depot and buy a attic vent thats what its called they different sizes just get the one that you need and thats it. But most homes already have one older homes have the ones that spin around when the wind blows you need one anyway so that the roof can breathe and you dont get moisture build up inside your attic to prevent mould.
