I'm 14 days into flower. There is no way I can go 45 to 60 days with only a foot or so space left to keep my light over my 2 girls. So that being the case I was considering making clones and starting over with them, but this time I would keep them topped which is what I should have done the first time (this is my first real grow). I read that I shouldn't take clones from flowering plants, can anyone confirm this. Additionally, how do I do clones? I mean, what kind of stem am I looking for to cut. I've got the process down, I read about 20 posts that pretty much say the same thing. But I'm just not sure what to cut.

I've never cloned so I can't answer your question but I have to saw awesome looking grow.

Can you tell me a little more about it? What strain? What kind of light are you using? How long have did you veg for?

etc etc.

Piglet how about screwing some really large screws into the studs of your celing and hanging your light from the ceiling. It will give you several more feet. I used the same kind of reflector you have and did that .....gained some real good grow room.

I got the seeds from Hemp Depot. They're SugarBlossom from Joey Weed. I germ'd 4. Three cracked and only one was male. I started small because this was my first grow.

The hydro rig is a DIY rig that I made from a couple of restaurant tubs. If you search the forum for my posts you'll be able to find the reference I made about it and then get a link for instructions.

The light is 400 watt with an electronic ballast so that I can change from MH to HPS.

I veg'd for about 6 weeks and then one of my plants started to show that it was a female. I went into flower and verified that one was a male and I have been flowering for 2 weeks now.

What I have learned from this was that I have certain height limitations. That's where I am at right now. I have a little over 14 inches left where I can raise my light but a good 45 days left for flowering. There's no way I can raise the light any higher without moving out of the closet I am in.

Since this is my first grow and primarily an experiment I am willing to slice and dice to get clones and start over. What I would do this time is keep my plants at about 20 inches while vegging and then let them do their thing while they flower. I'm not really worried about the quantity as much as I am with the quality so I am paying very close attention to flushing posts so I make sure that i don't get crappy tasting weed.

People often post they get more out of topping and if i top the clones as they veg I guess I'll find out.

Hey Weed,

I know it's hard to tell but right at the top of the PVC is actually AC Ducting and I think the homebuilder used 1x1's to encase it just to get the sheetrock on. I did consider it but I can't tell what kind of stud is up there. When I went up to the attic the AC Ducting was buried in insulation and I'd have to spend half a day clearing it all out.

Trust me, I really don't wanna chop em. But I have until July/August to get a grow completed. I quit smoking for my wife's pregnancy to support her since she had to quit too.............but after my daughter is done breast feeding I plan on smoking something

Ok.....your metal hooks off your light are connected to string right? The string is connected to the top of your pcv tubing......is that correct?

If so.....get some strong wire and loop it around your pcv tubing where the string normally is. Then remove the string and hang the light directly from the metal hooks to your loooped pvc wire. You should gain two feet. It most likely will be enough......especially if you can lst a little.

In other words tie your light by the hooks to the top of your pvc stand with some good wire. That probably makes a little more sense than the previous post....sorry.

I have chain wrapped around the PVC, tightly, so there is no gain at that point. I can gain around a foot by using an S hook going from the chain to the triangle bracket that hold the lights up. I'll sort something out tomorrow when I go to Home Depot. I'm not sure how to LST properly but I'm considering a fish weight tied to string and tie that to the top of the plant to slowly weight it down without snapping anything.

One fo my other problems is getting into the rig and keeping it clean. The roots are entertwined and it's hard to lift the whole lid out to clean. I'll come up with something....I duuno....I'm just mumbling.

S hook in take the triangle metal hooks off......gain a few inches? Everything helps.....

But the triangle hook keeps it centered as there are 2 holes up topspace about 2-3 inches across.

get some bamboo stakes...bout 1/4 in thick, and some yarn....bend the branches down, slowly....stake and tie off...yeild will increase too

Hey you can get a few screw in ceiling screws they are made with a tapered screw for drywall and such at HD, works like a charm. And to LST just take some kite string and loosely loop tie and you can duct tape or take a stick pin to the top of the plastic pot, and pull down + bend away. You can also increase the tension gradually this way if you can't bend all the way down. And you know the first couple weeks are when most strains stretch, they WILL stop stretching soon.

You're done with growth basically dude. At about the 21st day maybe that is about it for your plant. All the rest of the time will be bud development, so you have PLENTY of headroom in the system.

But on a more serious note, you way over grew your 400 watt. It can only penetrate like 2 feet or so and thats from the bulb. So everything you have below that is not going to grow.

For 400 watt you should veg to about 6 - 8 inches of height. Then it will flower to about two feet and you wil get some good results.

As for what type of shoot to clone, this is awfully later to be cloning but in general, you pick a vigorous shoot with several nodes, that has not grown 'bark' yet (=softwood cutting). In flower, you would only want to take LOW branches for clones to avoid screwing with the hormone distribution in the flowering plant and possibly stressing it, plus most yield comes off the higher colas.
