ph rising rapidly
ok so i have two soil grows under my belt so far but this time i decided to try hydro
i am running a DWC set up and the seedling has been in there 4 days so far and is growing nicely my only problem is that my ph rises up to 7 and above very quickly i use ph down until i obtain a ph of 6 and i contine to check it throughout the day and surprisingly to me, after about an hour or two the ph is back at 7 and sometimes even higher now i can easily adjust this back down to 6 but its annoying to have to adjust ph like 10 times a day on 4 different buckets is there anything i could be doing wrong that is causing ph to rise so fast? is this normal that ph rises? i knew ph tends to move back towards 7 as water and nutrients get used up but i didnt think it happend within hours |

Distilled water? Naturally he will add cal mag to that in place of everything the distilled has taken out.
What medium are you using? Is it hydroton? Did you presoak at the correct ph? What are your ppms numbers? Consistenly high ph could be a sign of nuteburn. I debliberately avoided answering this question originally due to the fact that the information offered to solve the problem was almost nil. The answer to his problem is listed easily if he searches ph issues since these forums are FULL of correct info on it. That doesn't seem to bother some other folks who offer advice though, so perhaps it is I who is mistaken.

Just gotta poke my nose in here. I notice that you ignored WH's question about the Hydrotron. Yet, took the bad advice about distilled water. ![]() Interesting. Are we perhaps a little ?Weedhound knows what she's talking about and had good reason to ask that question. If you really want help, it's best to figure out who to listen to and and when. Had you responded with more information, or filled out the troubleshooting questions, you might have a solution by now. ![]() I'm not raggin' on ya. (well, maybe a little) ![]() Free advice is worth what ya pay for it, usually. Any advice you can get from Stinky Attic, or Weedhound, or a dozen others here, is priceless! So, my friend, would you care to try again? "Strike one, the umpire said" Weezard

There's nothing wrong with Distilled water other than a lack of micronutes that are usually found in soil. But it will probably not solve his PH problem in Hydro. That's what makes it bad advice. If the PH gets away from him, he could lose the crop. Growin' for fun? A setback, Growin' meds? ... Nothin' wrong with takin' a wild-ass guess either, as long as you label it as such. It's commendable that you want to help, but this is way too serious and way too real for some of us. I'm not about to advise Stemis with so little information. It would be a disservice. I'm sure the real solid experts here feel the same. So, they wait for details, or ask for details, then suggest solutions from years of knowlege and experience, FOR FREE! That's a hard deal to beat,ya? ![]() I'm still waiting for an answer about the media, (Hydrotron?). Which could be the key to this lock. ![]() No answer? Movin' along. Good luck, Weezard

Weezard is absolutely correct.....ok not about the me being priceless part but the rest of it is dead on.
![]() You DO usually get what you pay for. Distilled water has absolutely ZERO to do with ph and its own issues (nothing good for the plants) to deal with. But asnwering questions and writing down information is a hassle....its work. You have to write things down, get facts right, and actually put some energy into things....AND ... Interesintingly.....exactly the same thing the answerer must do to get in order to get the CORRECT answers you want and that will solve your problem. Yet if you are not willing to do put the energy and effort into your grow.....why in the world should I? Weezard is a true sweetie by saying we help for free. I don't in any way pretend to be God.....but I sure like his saying about helping those who help themselves. That one's a keeper

It's your hydroton.
Keep adding your pH down until you get it stable over the course of several hours, then do a COMPLETE res change and re-fill with whatever your water of choice is- tap water if it is not too 'hard', or distilled water with calmag in it. Bring that to the correct pH and you should have a much more stable pH over time. Your problem is that you MUST soak hydroton in water pH'd to 5.8-6.0 before use, and let it sit at least 24h to determine that indeed it IS stable, then rinse well and use.
