Can rockwool melt!?

and no, not by fire

Acidity.

The hydro shop owner said if I have a PH of 5.5 or below, my 4-inch rockwell cubes will start melting and shrinking...constricting my plants...therefore...killing them.

Any truth?

I am having a hard time with that one. About to fall out of my chair.

You don't want your PH to go quite that low but sometimes it does for a short time untill you bring it back up. If you want to know do it. Take a cube and soak it in low PH water and see what happens. Take a small piece and put in lemon juice or some acid. I don't think it will and by the time it did your plant would be in the history books.

Well I don't use rockwool any more because I find it to be to inconsistent, and after moist to dry and any other kind of enviro change it gets weird.

P.S. god damit locnar you must have got on right before me

I don't sleep much if I don't have my meds. LOL. I mostly use 1 inch starter cubes but know some that do E/B with the big cubes and love it.

Thats what I do. 1 inch to start then graduate to 4x4x4 and do e&f and so far not a prob (knocks on some kind of wood). I will be looking into new stuff called Sure To Grow but since only comes in case lots it doesnt fit the budget as of yet.

Your just very lucky. LOL. The mear thought of plants being slowy choked to death is distubing. Why on earth would a hydro guy that sells it tell someone that ?

What was he trying to sell you on to take it's place ?

he was just telling me to keep my ph at 6.0 - 6.5 and above instead of 5.5

I get so many different oppinions it hard to differentiate truth from fiction. I have had my ph at 5.5 for the past two weeks and they dont seem to be doing that great.

I had a problem with my ph too, it went down for some odd reason and I'm going to try Cannazym for a potential root rot problem.

dont mean to thread jack but i started a thread about this and got no response so i went down to my hydro shop and got a box of free samples from them, now im a little skeptical about it.its looks and feels like loose cotton even the 4 inch blocks do.
