Drip irr w/ hydroton

Please help,

I plan on doing a drip irrigation system with 2 bato buckets. The water is recycled into a 25gal rez. I will be using GH floragro, floramicro, and florabloom. I have an airstone and sub-pump in the rez. 150watt HPS 150watt MH lighting.
We started clones in RR in ezcloner and plan on putting them right into the hydroton. When are they ready to be placed in hydroton?
Should I mix hydroton with cocotek to help establishment?
I will post pic of setup, any help is much obliged!

When you have nice little white roots go to hydrotron. Nothing else, mixing mediums can cause problems.. They will do fine in hydrotron alone. Look forward to seeing some pic of the new babies.

I agree with LOC NAR. I just want to add one thing. Make sure you plant the roots deep enough so that they are in the dark.

LOC Nar thanx for the quick response.

Shecut'em, also thanx for the info I will take that into account. You think covering up the hydroton will be worth it?

I will be using flora sheild in addition to the nutrients. Going to use tap water, is testing the pH enough or should I test for Ca/Mg?

You need to test for PPM's of your water. Too much chlorine is bad. Well water with too much iron is bad. You can let water sit out to get rid of chlorine. I would get even a cheap filter to help and then a little cal-mag plus.

It helps if you cover the hydrotron but like said just keep the roots in the dark. I get a little algea sometimes but algea won't hurt unless it's a massive break out.
