I'm somewhat new to growing hydro. i have tried once before and have fixed all the mistakes i was told to but i am not sure if i fixed them right
this is what it looks like so far

The water pump is 106gph w/ air flow control valves on it so it drips slower.
The light is 75 Watt RZilla reptile light (trying to High pressure sodium)
Ph - 5.8
Air temp - 78 Degrees Fahrenheit
Water temp - 75 Degrees Fahrenheit
light on timer on at 10AM to 4AM
Pump for watering 12PM, 6PM, 2PM for 30min at this speed (out of focus Video)

that bulb... not a fan here. what do you mean by "trying to HPS?" i'm sure we would've all heard if terrarium bulbs are effective for growing if they were. sorry to rain on the parade.

Every thing is good except 2 things.
1. The dripper. I think you only drip for like a half hour a day. That way the rock wool doesn't stay totally soaked all the time. You should soak it once a day, more if your plants dry it out faster.It should be almost dry before you water. With your light I'm sure it dries out hella fast.

2. Your light is a 75 watt reptile light. That light is designed to produce heat for a reptile. It is not designed to make light. It is using a lot of juice and producing almost no light. You need to put the biggest wattage cfl you can get your hands on in there. Better yet have like 4-6 of em'. That reptile light is NO good at all, also it is going to make a lot a lot a lot of heat for no good reason. Get that hps, till then get a/some cfl(s).

Otherwise its a very innovative grow. How did you convert 110 volts ac to 12 volts dc?

well thanks for letting me know about the lights before i went any farther. rollitup.org told me about the reservoir in the dark got that changed used somewhat old pictures but the lights they said nothing about.


110 volts ac to 12 volts dc get a charger for a phone or anything you don't use anymore (Atari plug for me) cut the end off and solder them to w/e you need.

any other setups i should waste my time w/?

settle down there, killer. the only thing you can get from us is advice, and we're only being honest.

best advice i can give you: tear it down, save your pumps, airstone, maybe the light fixture, and the rockwool. read, read, read. then try again, maybe with a DWC.

again, we're (most of us here) not unfriendly. we're only building on others past successes and always learning (and trying to prevent) from failures.

I think a good light and a soilless container grow, hand water every 2 to 3 days and you will yield more than most in here. Most do worse in hydro than they would have in soilless. I think if u go back to basics you'll do great

OK i fixed the lights so far no more reptile light and now 4 23w CFL.

waters for 30min at 10:30am waiting to see how long until dry to set more

i know everyone thinks that tearing it down would be the best idea but its working so far id like to grow until it dies which by the way you guys are talking shouldn't take long. is there anything else you guys can help with?

I don't get what you mean by "trying to HPS" and "1/2 way to HPS". Your system looks kinda rigged to me but I don't really understand whats going on in the picture either because it looks like its in a computer case or something. If I were you, I'd just set up a DWC system, but I really want to know what you mean with the HPS talk.

If I were to grow cannabis, I would only do so to supply myself and my close friends. Doing this would take myself and my friends out of harms way by knowing the source of our cannabis, as well as take hundreds of thousands of dollars off the black market annually. It would also lower the demand of black market cannabis, and would ultimately help keep cannabis out of the hands of minors.

Don't give up, I like your system because its cheap, already set up, and in theory will work. As you grow this gather everything you will need for a DWC. If you take your time you can get some cheap equipment. Your already half way there, use Craigslist for free buckets and grow boxes and aquarium setups people want to get rid of. Ive seen perfect grow boxes for free on there.

The cfls are good. The temp will good with the cfls.
And you will probably need a bigger piece of rock wool, those are cheap. You can get a larger piece that has a hole dug into it. You put your old piece into the new one. A cover to keep the light off the rock wool would help also. The roots will grow into the new piece and fill it up.
Make sure you flower early if you don't have much vertical space.

will this work if i build it in a smaller bucket i don't have much room for this and i cant have light shine out of my wall because my parents cant see it

Stop. Don't grow in your parents house without them knowing. They pay the bills, they take the rap if security is compromised. Have some respect and get your own place in your own name if you want to grow cannabis. Otherwise, tell them about it. You won't be able to hide it forever anyways.
