Hi guys,

I'm new to this site, and this is my first grow. I bought the following from my local garden centre and the seeds I'm using are the Greenhouse feminised white widow.

I'm currently at the germination stage, where I followed the manuf.instructions to germinate them. I will be transfering them to Root Riot cubes in an unheated propogator. I'm using bottled mineral water without altering the PH, just while the seeds are germinating.

Please can someone tell me when I've transfered the seeds to Root Riot, will I need to bring the PH of water down and will i need to add any nutes?

Hi, welcome to the board! Sounds like you have invested in plenty of equipment, should set you in good stead if you use it all correctly!

I've not used root riot cubes before so am not sure if they have nutes already included, but the thing to remember is that seeds have enough stored nutes/energy to get them to sprout and grow the first 2 leaves (called cotyleons, which give the plant the ability to start photosynthesis), after which the plant will start to absorb nutrients through its roots. The pH becomes important at this point because if it is too high or low it may inhibit the uptake of nutrients. I like to use a pH of around 5.5 for hydro growing and around 6.5 for soil (my mother plants are in soil). Of course, this is only what I have learnt and others will no doubt have a slightly different take on it, I am relatively new to growing myself.

Cheers Loafyboy!!! from your explanation ; I will continue to use standard mineral water till the white roots come through the seeds. From the point of transfering them to the root riot I will use mineral water of PH 5.5 and after the first couple of leaves come through, I will add 1/4 strength nutrients till they are ready to transfer to the wilma system.

Just got done with a fem WW from greenhouse grow. Had some MASSIVE colas with a fairly good yield. I grow organic soil tho, so I'm sure your hydro system will push em to the limit. They seem to me to be generous feeders, and I would try to keep single colas, in my grow, the topped plant yielded significantly less overall.

Be vigilant in your search for hermies. 3 out of my 5 pack were hermied but didn't really show until later in flower. Forced me to harvest just before 8 weeks, and I was hoping to push them to 9. Only 25 or so beans in about 7 oz, so I got pretty lucky.
