hydroponics for young plants

hey guys , i heard that putting young plants in big buckets is not a good idea because it focuses on building solid roots instead of growing. is it ok to put a young one in a 5 gallon bucket in DWC setup. and can i use a metallic bucket or is it better to use plastic ones.

Plastic is better. In hydro we use acid as Ph down and the nutrients also are acidic as well and you know what metal and acid can make so use plastic.

Depending on what your idea of young plant is. A seedling is until you have your 4th set of true leaves. If you have 4 or more sets of true leaves then you have a full plant and can move them and start using nutrients and good light too. The nutrients should be 1/2 strength to start then move them into their veg nutrients and you are good to go. Make sure you have plenty of air movement and light too.

What makes you think it's the best way to grow indoors?
What about the other Hydroponic methods?

They are very easy but they do have limitations. There are many other techniques that grow faster, larger and healthier plants. Drip, Aeroponics, Misting and Fogging just to name a few. None of them are as easy as a DWC but don't ever think just because it's easy it's the best. Some growers can take it personal but hey thumbs up to you for growing Hydro over dirt anyway. After a few years you will get bored and want to try something else.

I hope you did not get that one that only has a 190 GPH pump & a sprinkler or two. (Caution with the sprinkler damaging roots). The water droplets are very large and heavy. The capillary action of the sprinkler hitting young roots can damage them.

DWC is another growing style called Deep Water Culture. It's where you use a 5 gallon bucket an 8" net pot some air stones from the fish store and a fish pump to make bubbles. The idea is the bubbles are to rise and pop soaking everything under the lid including the roots. Thus the plant grows from the millions of bubbles popping.

do you realize how much room you are going to need if you start 40 clones, and you get 100% rooting. ..my cloner has 14 sites and that is almost 2 much unless you are doing sog/scrog, of course you can keep'em veg'd in waiting...oh yeah, do you have alot of light? 1000w...I guess what just came to mind, when I read this thread was; Do you have a bunch of money to throw at this endeavor?; because it isn't cheap! I'
m not trying to be a killjoy, honest. I wish you luck and I'm thrilled to see someone jump in with both feet just as I did...goodluck

Clones don't need much room they are not that big anyway.
You don't veg in a cloner do you?
Don't use HPS on clones only use fluorescent light.

Happy gardening.

Latewood how are your plants doing now that you are back?
