Madman 24 site aero-cloner/4 rotary sprinkler heads/256gph

I've been meaning to put this together. My Mother plant is overgrown and I need to clone...So, tonight I built my second cloner.

The "Heart of my system is a little giant 256gph submersible pump...

I am using the 4 line manifold from a dripmaster microgarden kit,

I adapted the manifold to a 1/2" lego riser with 1/2 flextube inside...and
they fit tightly over the outlet on the pump after I 90'd over to it from lego riser.

I am using rotary/spinning sprinkler heads mounted upside down in top anfter being connected to 1/4" black waterlines.

Oh Yeah...those are wackojack's cloning plugs...

I will be cloning using botanicare's cloning products and I will post testing on this new machine...hope you enjoy...If you have any question's...Fire away

I would like to thank Zandor for all his support/motivation and his plugs.
I will be putting the cuttings I use for this test into a recirculating top feed/water culture system rotating 12 clones a month.

later.lw

1. top of 24 site/4 sprayer/aero cloner

2. Dripmaster 4 site 1/4" micro manifold

3. lego riser, cut down to 4-1/2" and 90'd over to 256gph little giant pump

4. close-up of sprinklers...notice the wetness after my initial test run

Where'd you get the cloning plugs from? Just curious. They look like clay

the cloning plugs are from wackojack hydro...SEE: Zandor for these
they are the same foam plugs that Zandor uses and you can also go to garden store and buy garden kneepad, (it is a mat that you kneel on)...If you are crafty, you can cut your own, out of that material...goodluck, thanks for the Q

Damn, cool idea putting the sprayers in lid and pump up top (no heat). Never would have thought of it. I always shied away from making [one of those units] with the 1/2" pvc spraybar because of not being sure of the exact height the sprayers would have to sit at, to hit the roots/stems. And once the PVC assembly's glued together (to test it if it's at the wrong height).........
But this method you could adjust the height of the sprayers.
Thank you.

that's right...you just add a 90 to what I have there now and an extension. I have different length 1/4" extensions I have made...but I find that if you are closer to the top you will have your spray cascading down the stem, instead of beating the roots, once they grow out and are fragile...
I just kept reading Zandor talking about roots getting tangled in sprayers, and it hit me...Why don't you build a unit with top-sprayers.

another cool thing about connectin throught he top is; If you drill your hole just right you can get the line through hole, then insert sprinkler head and gently force it back into the hole...It becomes rigid. later.lw

Ok Experiment #10 here we go...

Well, I thought it apprpropriate to introduce you to the Star of the show...
1. My mother; Before the Slashing

2. Here's to you MOM...16 Misty Blue's...she looks like she could use a ciggy lmao...

3. New Unit ready to go...

4. 3 of the 4 strains I'm cloning tonight, seperated and the 2 unsexed NL2's
tagged...the 4th strain is unsexed Sexy Orange Skunk.
We will trim under water...

5. So, I've got 5 from one unsexed NL#2 from one plant I think is a fem...we'll see how right I am, later...3 from another unsexed NL#2, 2 unsexed Sexy Orange Skunk, the other 14 are Misty Blue.

Question here we go...continued

OK...

1. back to our under water cloning station...This is where we usually show you how to trim and dip in rooting gel...etc...blah blah blah...I am not going to do that! So...

2. Here is one potential clone; Ready to go

3. the 3 unsexed strains labeled...the other 14, I know what they are

4. It looks WET in there...whadaya think Z?

5. I thought some of you might get a 'kick' out of this...cloner in place, 3' below 250hps...then clockwise...10g 2 site bubbler/3.75" netpots...3g 2 site bubbler/5" netpots...2.5g bubbler (made out of a distilled water jug)/3.75" netpot...and a 5g bucket bubbler/5" netpot A Smorgasbord of home-made dwc units

Hope you all enjoy the thread...maybe this will help some one build a cloner...who knows?

See ya in a week, when I get some bumps...later.lw

Very nice. Do you snip the tips of all your clones? Also, I found some neoprene inserts but they don;t say what size they are.

http://www.gchydro.com/detail.asp?product_id=EZCLONEI

Do you know what size they are (maybe it's a universal sized insert and you know.)

Da1...the plugs are 1-1/8...I used a 32mm hole saw to cut out the holes and the plugs fit perfect...
Ask Zandor for plugs...they sell 'em under the co. name wackojack hydro
the neoprene plugs you found are a different size, for ezcloners..I think.

If you buy the ones you found...you just make your cloner site holes to
match the plugs you found...If they are the black ones...I think you would use a 1-1/2 to 2'' holesaw...later.lw

Looking good LwOOD!

I'd like to ask you a question... about... guess!... the plugs.
lol!

Ok, to the point: Clones in the plugs, into the cloner. Clones root perfectly, and they're ready to go...

What do you do?

Do you take the plugs off and place the clones in net pots with pebbles?

And, side question: The net pots... the small square holes... do those little holes ever "choke" big-growth roots?

Thanks lWood ! Have a good one,

OK, 024eltrut...
1st, the plugs...DIRECTIONS: Open slit and remove rooted clone...set clone in 3.75-5" netpot with a layer of pre-soaked ph'd Hydroton in the bottom...set in clone and fill netpot the rest of the way up...I bury the little darlin's right up to there neck!

2nd, Netpots...I wish I had a pic of one of "my monsters/roots"...Choke'em???
Yeah, RIGHT...Those little netpots are 'NO Match' for 'MADHYDRO Root Systems!!!

Thanks for hangin' out 024eltrut, lw

Cloning tip # 3

Select tops like this, for ease of handling/rooting...
...We all know that we need the next nodes below the tops in the mist...so by stretching them a little...we accomplish this

There is plenty of room to cut your clone below the lower nodes and shave them off; Underwater of course; This will provide optimum chances for rooting...

I think the lack of shaved nodes; or, just placing cut stems, dangling in the cloner...doesn;t work!!!

OK, MAD Cloner...success, success success! ready to re-plant/Day23

here are pix of what turned out to be a side-by-side; Young, unsexed/C1's side-by-side w/ C1's from Mature 5-6 month old Mother...As you can see, the Older clones are 'KICKIN'ASS!!!' Over the young, Unsexed/Cuttings from NL#2

I conclude that the over-all maturity of the sexed clones attributed to there fast rooting and, immediate growth.

It will be interseting to see how the NL#2 root next go-round, if I get a FEM'

...So, benchmark1/cuttings, mature-vs-immature/confirmed*seeindoorbible

I found these yesterday at the HydroStore...
I am going to experiment with a couple canadian trays/? filled with hydrofarm large perlite and providing 4 sites drip per tray/110gphconverted from 1/2"
black irrigation hose to 1" pvc manifold (modified, slightly from Madman Aero thread...)and fitered/converted to 1/4" driplines (very simple).

These trays have a troth on either side of a "hump" for lack of a better term,
and pre-fit drains at one end...The 'Mad Scientist' reared his ugly head and before I knew it...'HE' had 3 of these up on the counter...
along with some Florakleen...(Herbus "bullwhipped" me into the idea, that I needed some, LOL),
and of course a new 10' piece of PANDA PLASTIC...you can never have TOO MUCH!

...anyway, if these work 12.95 a piece, I will be thrilled. The experiment is due to the fact that I am using Perlite as opposed to Hydroton...For the 1st time. any suggestions will be appreciated from perlite growers!

watch for Drip-trays experiment thread...later.lw

my newest set-up

I love this unit, but I did have to vent the rez in order to keep inside rez temps down. I think I might be modifying this with different spray heads.

dropped off a few from up North this AM...Thanks LN58

I just experimentd with r'wool (nightmare, but I am not through trying)
I tried Gen's rooting in perlite and that did not work for me...(I did save one beauty though)

so, I need an ego boost...back to MadHydro unit
for a recharge. LOL

Will post after the deed is done.

Go with the cloner. The papaya will do well. They do pretty good in rwool but I was going to go bubbler or I have the stuff to build what you got here. Seems like the rwool just holds too much water for some. Worked great on NL"S for me, first couple of grows. You look like you get a better root going with your cloner. I have to figure a way to keep my temps down better where I'm going to veg, clone and mother. I have an ice machine that make 165 pounds a day but I have to figure how to make some kind of manifold that will keep water temps down. Maybe floor system for them to set on like 3/4 inch pvc. I can keep ice in it when it's hot and run ice water floor. Any way GLAD to here you got them G should be getting his soon. This is like spy bizz. LOL. LOC out.

If you have an ice maker...run a plastic waterline thru it and it will cool everything down...add more line into icemaker to cool down temps and take line out of icemaker to warm up fluids. I am doing floor system in my nursery.

great idea!

Here are a mess of papaya cuttings...these are cute little devil's

I took 14 of them and put them in MadHydro aerocloner...these are in general veg room 4 feet under a 400mh sunmaster warm deluxe...I might move them to dedicated chamber w/fluoro, but...I need to go procure this season's 5 dollar mini fans...I say this season's, because they burn up after running 24/7; Every summer! then I will be able to dedicate areas to smaller projects.

There were 4-5 left and I mixed them in with some mistyblue cuttings for my 2nd try r'wool rooting experiment. Do you like my box? Light is built in, but not wired yet.

those are 2 c99xnl5 seedlings started in rapid rooters, in the cup

Awsome, man I think they will do real well. The box is great. I can't wait to see roots. My ice maker is too far away to run a line and if I move it to my shed it will cause more heat. I was trying to figure a big cooler filled, with tube run through it. Might be a pain keeping it full but it's just a few months. I looked at pro chillers and it chilled me to the bone on prices. Where do you get the 5 buck fans at, I could use a few ? I know you will keep us updated. I just need to keep hydro fluid temps down a bit, the room temp for veg is good with vents. Papaya she lives on. yea , man. LOC, out.
