ICEToker is an unknown quantity at this point
Question Lucas Formula

when using LF do you include additives in the 800ppm ceiling, ie. floralicious plus, green fuse bloom, silica, epson salts, chi, koolbloom, etc...

OR

do you just add them after you have 800ppm with GH bloom and Micro???

Silly question, but do you really need all that other stuff?

I just changed the nutes, I used 5 ml GH grow, 10 ml GH Micro, and 15 ml GH Bloom per gallon...it came out to 700ppm...then I added all the other stuff and it was 1000ppm...I'm gonna dilute to less than 900 ppm and keep it there...

lucas formula doesn't use the grow GH. Just the micro 5 ml and 10 ml bloom to one gallon of water for veg. If you look at the micro- there's plenty of nitrogen in it already. For flower it's 8 ml micro and 16 ml bloom.

This is the lucas formula up to about 1200 PPM's and then additives. Cal-mag, B52 and that's it. 1000 HPS as close as I can get it.

That's basically what I will be using, except Liquid Karma, Instead of B-52...

As you probably know I mix Advanced nutrients, with Botanicare products. My Advanced Nutrient "Expert" (recognized by AN) is the one who told me to use LK instead of B-52.

I did go through one grow with B-52 (great deal on ebay)and it worked as well.

Thanks for the heads up latewood. I have a few good samples to try. and running low on B52. Oh that's papaya about 2 to 3 weeks from harvest.

Could someone please explain the details of the "Lucas Formula"? I've seen this mentioned all over the board, but have yet to see any details.

Gluteous, the lucas formula is General Hydroponics (GH) fertilizers for hydroponics. If you use the formula on the bottle, you will be giving the plants too much nitrogen and they will stretch alot. Most hydro growers have limited space and don't want really tall growth, besides the plant will develop a weak stem and need support. You will only need to buy the micro and bloom bottles without the grow. They work really well, they're cheap (relatively) and alot of experienced growers use it. Does that anwser your question?

Thank you, yes that did answer my question.

I'd like to say high to everyone as this is my first post on the board. I've been reading a lot and trying to get familiar with this method of growing before putting any $$$ into it.....well I took the leap and went hog wild. Everything on the way.

I was under the impression that the Lucas Formula was someone's home receipe of nutes. Didn't know it was GH's receipe. After reading the board I decided to go with AN's 3 part, cal-mag+, hygrozyme, big bud, bud blood, overdrive, voodoo juice and liquid karma. I'll get final phase later on down the road.

I must admit, I'm still quite confused about the proportions of each I should add to the 55gal reservoir (yes, I'm using all 55 gallons). I'm right at the start of the program, so I hope to find a good week by week "per/gal" receipe with the ppm that I can taylor to the specific plant as I learn more. I know each strain has it's own preferences but hopefully I can find a table like AN's "nutrient calculator" with more accurate figures. (damn, why hasn't anyone created that same web page with customizable ingredients)

I've years of experience with soil so I hope that will help me diagnose and prevent failure early on should any occure. I hope to have my room complete by the end of the week and tested for function by weekend.

Thanks again for your help and thanks in advance for any more you can offer.

GM

Welcome gluteous. When you say you have years of experience with soil, are you talking about growing pot? If so then, you will be better suited to trying hydro. I'm a soil grower too, just not in mj. It does help a great deal to know about growing plants in the first place.

Hi payn4school, Yes those are trichomes. I will take more pic's . You should see them running up the stem on the big water leaves. I have never seen that much trichomes. Oh there are some more pic in Gen's grow. I'll get more but it's hard with a 1000 HPS in your face. Thanks. And the lucas formula is just one part micro to 2 parts bloom. Bring the PPM's up to what you want. I take it up till they can't stand no more, they love it.

lucas is 5ml/gal micro and 10ml bloom/gal (using ro water) in veg and 8ml/gal 16ml/gal in bloom I think...a buddy pointed out the extra p in grow so I am using my last bit until it's gone...

Ice, that's precisely the info I was looking for. Unfortunately, I just purchased 10 L of grow with the micro/bloom order. Oh well...

I've heard a lot about using a low ppm when first planting (say 500ppm) and working up to maximum amounts later, what I'm not sure of is should the micro/grow/bloom first be 500ppm total before adding the other additives?

I've interpreted that this is the case but would appreciate verification.

and...what's the aproximate maximum ppm range for an indoor grow reaching 6ft at harvest? Strain chosen was dictated by maximum height. Assuming all available light and nutes.

Thanks again

GM

I've always used all 3 and not had a bad stretching problem, but that is because of high light intensity...

The lucas formula as I understand it...Gen was close and ICEToker was right about values, but Lucas came up with this formula to be used with perpetual growing of clones SOG and whatnot...So he did not need nitrogen, he wanted the plant to concentrate on budding...Imho.

http://www.mondoproshop.com/nutrient...cednutrients=1

GMax...here is shortcut to Advanced nutrient calculator...just change value and US/Metric...I usually change it to US...In your case 55 gallons, then back to metric and use that to add nutrients to res...I find it easier to measure/mix using metric values...hope this helps

By the way...you are using my recipe; So, I will advise you this...Use all values for light feeding...
Get value for Liquid Karma from B-52 or just use 10ml per gallon

for Calmag...use directions on bottle...10-12ml per gallon

Hygrozyme...use 2/3 of value for sensizyme...or direction's on bottle...10-15ml per gallon.

the calculator will also show you when to quit using voodoo juice...
when to add the 1 week of bud blood...when to stop big bud and use overdrive and flushing agent...these last 4 are used consecutively/never together...
I will try and watch out for you...if you need some help, holler.lw

Thanks Latewood,

I was wondering how long it would take you to spot your receipe.

Quick question....using AN's nutrient calculator, do I first go with "vegetative growth" and record values, then pick the 2+bloom light feeding for the bloom values? Additionally, how many weeks should I choose for the bloom period? (I think it defaults to 7 weeks)

Thanks for ringing in, I've been watching your posts about as much as zandor's. You both saved me a lot of research. I'll hopefully be posting some pics of the room when it's finished. Then the fun really begins!!!

another thing.....

Do you think I should reduce the calmag value if I'm not using ROwater?

Yes, definitely. The GH fertilizers lower ph. I'm not using r/o water, but r/o runoff. The plants are doing great.
