Hi, I have a 400w HPS ballast with a sylvania standard HPS bulb and I'm curious, do many of you use the EYE hortilux bulbs? Do you think I'd be better off going with an MH conversion bulb for the veg stage and then using this bulb that I have, or buying a hortilux HPS for the entire grow?

Do you guys notice much of a difference with the hortilux bulbs? Do you think they're much better? Thanks in advance.

I can not answer your question.. but my advice is to work on methods of getting your light as close as possible to your plants without burning them. I suggest investment in cool tubes or similiar cooling hoods..

Every 12 inches further from the foliage that your light is placed, it looses 1/2 of its LUMENS... HID lights should never (few exceptions) be more than 12 inches from the plants...

go for the mh convo bulb man, the hortillux bulbs are way overrated, I bought one for a 600 watt parabolic and it didn't change a thing. They both have the same spectrum (horti and sylvy). You'll get a fast turn around with the mh during veg. good luck.

I am a fan of the EYE Hortilux. I figure for $25 more, Id like to get the best bulb out there. However, the only time I have noticed any type of difference, was with 1000 watt lights and I still think the Lumalux Sylvania I compared to was used when I thought it was new (which would of course make a difference).

Same thing with cars. If you own a BMW M3, you dont buy some $100 tires for it when they wear out. You get the pimp $200 tires. I try to treat my babies as best as possible in every way possible. And everytime I do...the results reaffirm my extra efforts.
