First attempt at cloning a success!!!!!!

I can't tell you guys how happy my partner and I were to wake up this morning and see the clones we started 8 days ago with roots! This means we can set up our hydro system, and really start producing.

The accomplishment you feel when you succeed at something like cloning for the 1st time is awesome!

you probably know this, but there are sometimes problems with the netting on jiffy pellets binding up the roots. there are a couple of differnt stories on this subject here if you searched. good job btw, i know exactly how you feel, mine finally rooted too, but it took 2 wks.

Katyowns---- can you tell me how you cloned because my first was not successful. I have Jiffy pellets, and bunch other stuff. If you can take the time please to do a step by step guide with material used that would be great. Please respond soon because I just trough plants back to 12/12.

I by no means can claim that my method is the best, and I think there's better places to look, but I'll tell you anyways

I took a cutting with a razor blade at a sharp angle to expose the most stem, then used the razor again to cut the stem in half about 1/4 inch up, to expose more. I put the stem in water, then in rooting power, then put it directly into the peat pot.

After doing this with all the cutting, I used a spray bottle to spray them and the lid of the plastic container I used. I put the container under a CFL on 18/6. Everyday for a week I opened it up and sprayed them again then put the lid back on. I then propped up one side of the container to allow airflow, and contined the once a day spraying. At about 11-12 days the roots showed up.

Perfect, thank you for your help, so you waited a week to prop up container? how much do you spray them, like a mist effect?

I must be a stoner cause I obviously wasn't thinking right. It says at in the original post that the roots showed up at 8 days, I just remembered it taking longer, sorry!

SO I did the same method except I dipped stem directly into Rootech gel for 30 seconds and inserted into peat pellets with a little water at the bottom of tray, and I have dipped in anti wilt but will buy a container tomorow and will mist them and lid along with letting them breathe daily.

Cloning a success for me!! My second attempt was perfect, I just had to follow some simple guidelines. Instead of a dome, I used Antiwilt, cut branch with a new cleaned razor blade, dipped into root gel for 30 seconds and placed in soaked jiffy pellet and sprayed daily and I really had to watch water level in the container the clones were in. I believe it took 14 days to see roots, so I planted them already. Pics later

    Well done!

I see a little stem purpling on your clone. Mine did that until I started putting a very weak amount of nutes in my clone watering solution.

Jiffypots behave similarly to rockwool cubes in terms of their water holding capacity. Overwatering would be a problem in jiffypots as much as it is in rockwool, but if you got roots in 10-11 days, you're doing pretty well on keeping the watering in the 'damp' and not 'wet' range. You might find some useful cloning tips in this photoessay on cloning in rockwool.

The only thing I don't like about jiffypots is that they're made of compressed peat, an organic material which can rot/mould as well as break into little bits. Not so good to have bits of stuff floating around in a recirculating hydro op.

I just noticed this reply now, a year later, but..

I never had a problem with peat getting into my hydro bucket, I used crushed lava rocks under the peat pellets and it protected the water perfectly.

HARVEST!!!! First timer with a home made system, lots of pics
    ^some pics

I'm not going to say my method is the best, but it's certainly worked out very well for me.
