    curing in the refrigerator

i was wondering if you could cure your buds after you dry them by placing them in the refrigerator? they would also follow the traditional glass jar method the only difference would be the refrigerator. is there any positive to this or negative? thank you

You mean, put the plain buds in the refrigerator without any jar or anything covering it???

Why? They'll retain water for a lot longer.
Everything I say about cannabis is just bragging to fit in with the gang. I cannot stand the stuff in real life, and I would turn myself in if I ever tried to grow or otherwise use the stuff.

Yea they will also most likely mold. In short, no, you can't do that. The only way you could cure in the fridge, is if you had them in air tight jars, then you would still have to open them every day until they cured, and...well, what's the point.

One time I heard, on the Dopecast (Awesome Podcast, btw), that when you put it in the fridge, it's like putting roses in the fridge. When they harvest a bunch of roses, and then refridgerate them, they stay alive until "rose season" or Valentines or whatever, but then when you buy them, they are wilted and dead in one day.

I think this has something to do with molecular breakdown while in the frozen or cold state, but I'm not positive. Maybe stinky will be able to clarify what I'm talking about.

    Just go get some jars....OR....

Here is a pic of the jar and buds. The jar is a Millwaukee pickle jar. I filled the jar with water and turned it upside down to see if there were any leaks. none. Then emptied the water dried the glass and filled with buds. I was asking this because dont ciggerrett (cant spell) smokers store their ciggs in the fridge to stay fresh and taste better? Also what would be the difference between fridge and frezzer storage? Ido valu your opinion and yove helped me out before thanks.

Hey, man. Well, if you have airtight jars, it's really unnecessary to put them in the fridge. I mean, you CAN, but I wouldn't. If I had that bud...I would keep it in the jars, cure it for a couple weeks (following a good curing method), and then I would make sure I kept it in a cool (not cold), DRY place...maybe even a cigar box until I smoked it.

Did you read that thread I linked up there????? You should.

By the way, nice bud man. You don't smoke much? It seems to me like you plan to have that weed for a LONG time. haha. Unlike cigarettes, MJ gets better and better over time if kept in appropriate conditions. More like wine than cigarettes.

Wouldnt the cold slow the curing process? (thinking back to elementary science) When something is cold its molecules compact and slow down, when warm they expand and move faster.
Fridge seems like a bad idea to me, though I could be wrong.

Tobacco has already been cured and dried before you buy it and put it in the fridge.

Im going to follow thegreenfogs link "read this thread" a little higher on this thread. It also talks abought putting the buds in the fridge but after they have been cured. But if the cold does slow the curing proces isnt tht what you want a nice slow cure hmmm? Still i think ill follow that link

... MJ should be stored in a "cool, dark" place ... last time I checked, the inside of a refrigerator is "cool" and "dark" ... also, refrigeration dehumidifies ... I store my buds in Mason jars in the fridge ... you will find, the buds will not only cure in the fridge, but they will also DRY out rapidly ... in fact, they will get TOO DRY, you will wind up placing a fan leaf, or lemon peel, etc., into the jar to maintain some humidity ... for maintaining freshness, refrigerator wins, hands-down ... but, you will have to replace some humidity

"cool, dark" place....I agree...I also define "cool" as 65-75 degrees..(year around average)

I keep my jars in a bottom dresser drawer...about 65 degrees in winter...about 72-75 degrees in summer...been there since JAN 06...

and the couchlock weed has entered a new level..........buds feel just like they did when I put them in.......

i was wondering if you are puting a lemon slice in the jar for humidity does the bud also taste like or smel likr lemon since ite absorbing its juices? if so can you use other fruit for diferent tastes?

The lemon taste does transfer to the buds a bit, I use lettuce to do the same thing but without the taste.
Room temp always worked great for me, I pu em' in a drawer and let em cure. Next harvest I'll test this refridgerator theory with one jar and have my friends do the pepsi challange to see if it makes a difference.

I just used a lemon-peel as an example, because the sativas I grow mostly, have strong lemon-aromas ... I also use a fan leaf, when they're available ... I've noticed stronger aroma, with fruit peels, but I can't say as the taste was affected ...

Your right image reaper it dosent transfer much taste (I can notice it, not strong though), and the big thing is the smell, it definately does add much more smell than taste, but its not a bad thing if an added aroma/ taste is what your looking for.
I never tried a fan leaf though, it never occured to me. I'll have to give that a try sometime.
