led dwc sog, well hopefully.........

hey hey there everybody in the beautiful world of marijuana.
so my situation is, (here comes the life story) i,ve been harbouring thoughts of doing a small scale cabinate grow aprox 2'x3'x8' so when looking at lighting i was tossing up between hps (top results but mega heat in such a small area needing venting cool tubes etc) or cfl (sorts the heat issue but destroys the yield). it was about this time i seen sns's thread and after a lil (lol) read was sold on the idea of leds. unfortunatly living in europe the led wave hasn't quite broken here so decided to produce my own. but not wanting to do that much soldering etc i contacted a company who were happy to help and are producing a pcb with all the leds and drivers mounted to a heatsink and connected to a power supply. if im happy with the results from it i'll post a link where any1 can order them, i,m leaving the designs with the manufacturer so all that will have to be done will be make a case and cooling fan. anyway i digress.
so that hopefully will be my light sorted, after sns's admission that these lights would be more suited to sog, thats the method i've opted for, i'll using a large container with 6 net pots mounted in the top and dwc underneath. was thinking of a short veg period growing up to 8-12 inches or so then lollypop them and srtaight into flower.
i have purchaced some really good seeds (original bubblegum and jack herer) but am just sprouting some nice bagseed i found for my first grow. dont wanna fuck up the first lot of pricey seeds.
anyway people gotta move
please stop by with some constructive critisism or laughter
peace love and happiness to all

hey sns, pleasure to have you along.
well so far as specs go i'll just give a quick description as its still in planning stages but should have 6 ladies under it in about a month
im using 20 ledengin 660nm red leds 3v @ 1000ma for a total of 60watts for the rest im using luxeon rebels (total of 70) 3v @ 700 for 147 watts mixed across all peak wave lengths (i was able to pick from individual colour bins) i got the leds for free and if this is a success my supplier will look into mass production but i'll keep a link to my current manufacturer so cancom users can source it for cost as this is where i found most of my info, so a big thank you and hats off to all of those pioneers who LED the way lol.

i dont have all the info to hand right now and far to baked to do all the sums again but think the red blue ratio will be around 11:3 but also putting in a good few leds around 480-500 nm for cartenoid production. when i have everything in front of me i'll post exact details.
strains, ya love that bubblegum. first time i hit a bong of bubblegum i lay back on a bed a smiled for about 40 mins, it was a big bowl and have never tried jack herer but after hearing it described as the champagne of weed i said i'd have to give it a go
cheers for stoppin by

anxious hmmm ya that about sums it up and now another spanner to the damn plans just 10 mins ago took a job out of town but at least its not to tragic, its 2 weeks on 2 weeks off so when im home i can lavish them with attention and try to keep them in top shape, thats with lots of help from all of you guys in here of course my girl is smart as hell, a real fast learner and has been intrested since i first mentioned it to her, even though she very rarely smokes (or she just entertains my ideas im not sure) and would be an excellent babysitter for the 2 weeks im away so its still game ball.
im just doin some prep work cause this my first serious attempt at growing. i've had some grows b4 but that was soil, very ammature and a long time ago so im just germing some bag seed i have a lot of, for practice.
the way im doin it is with one of those 10 dollar seedling trays, you know the type green bottom black inserts and clear lid, im just using cheap run of the mill seedling compost as this is only practice. then in the side of the green tray i put a hole. tightly fitting into this hole is a hose, the other end of which is connected to an apparatus not to dissimilar to a sealed bong which is blown through by an air pump 15 min every hr and the whole thing is sitting on top of the radiator set to juuuuuuusssstttt the right heat
i know its all a little anal but thats why i took the job too much spare time on my hands.
happy pastimes ppl

poke the embers

hey out there
life has finally allowed me the chance to get my cab together after a crazy year. so if anyone tunes back in sorry about the gap. would love to hear if some of the led pioneers or old cancom gurus still haunt the thread boards.

so back 2 buissness, i was about to throw out an old ikea book case when i had one of those lightbulb moments. i found a large res (50gal at least) which sits snugly (after some trimming) into the bottom when the shelves are pulled out and then fitted the shelf back, sitting on top of the res.
Into the shelf i sunk 6 4" net pots.

the top shelf is aprox 4" from the top. attached to the bottom of the shelf is a small cooling fan which exhausts through a small carbon filter above the shelf, also on the top shelf is the pwr supply for my led light. so my total grow space from pot tops to the lamp max height is 40cmx70cmx70cm high.
i plan a clone grow with short veg, top once then straight into flower once they've recovered.

At the moment i'm just about to ph my hydroton to reduce any ph issues and was just wondering what ph to aim for, was thinkin of around 5.8. Promise i'll get some pics up asap thanks all peace out

Talking Got your pics ready yet?

Did you get your light built? Love to see it / hear about it. Power supply especially. (How are you regulating the current?) I'm building a light now, also am using Ledengin 660's (6 x 15 watters, though). Weezard has been very gracious in helping me.

Calling out to Weezard for LED advice

ya i've got it all built i will def post pics real soon just nearing the end of a week of nite shift. my friend already did a trial grow with it and to be honest it didnt have the best chance (few teething problems) but it didnt really compare to a 400w hps.
mine has 20 660's running at 1000ma and about 60 luxeon rebels which i was lucky enough select from the colour bins and managed to hit most of the peaks on the graph, but also thinking of a mark 2 using 2700k rebels boosted by ledengines 635's and 660's.
promise pics by the end of the week
