Thread: How long does weed last?

Is there an actual way for it to go bad, aside from molding? How long does it take before it gets too dry?

Properly stored it can last for months if not years.

really? i was under the impression that the thc breaks down rapidly, so i have always used my buds w/in 2 or 3 weeks after buying.

As Perp pointed out, "Properly stored" is the key. Many times if I get a really good strain I'll save a few grams for later. What I do is vacuum pack it in one of those seal-a-meal things. I've had weed in those for up to two years and it's still as potent as the day I bought it.

Just get some air tight jars, that works the best for storing weed.

Ive never really bought large ammounts of weed, so I just store it in empty medicine bottles.

I've found weed that was months old, and it was still good, just harsh.

I've never had weed long enough for it to go bad, but I know you can put it in a heavy duty ziploc and freeze it.

Yep, air-tight jars. They conceal the smell, too. The idea for the vaccuum packed seal-a-meal things is a really good idea too. I've thought about doing that, but I don't have one of those things. Air is Cannabis' worst enemy. Well, maybe not the worst, but air is what causes it to dry out and get moldy. If you take most of the air out of the container, and seal it air-tight, it's going to last a hell of a lot longer.

I wouldn't know either. If there's bud around I'll be smoking it!

Mine is usually gone within a month of purchase, and I store it in a airtight canister that was made for flour.

I have mine in a ziplock bag inside a sealed cigar box. Would it be better to take it out of the bag and just leave it open in the box?

Noooo lol . Definately keep it inside the bag as well because your bud will stay the freshest when it's exposed to as little air as possible... Unless it's one of those expensive cigar boxes that seals completely shut and you can control the humidity and temp. of the box's interior... that might be ok.

By keeping it in the bag, you will also minimize loss of trichs and whatnot.

I never had bud go bad on me. Its just not possible , The bud will always be long long gone before i ever goes bad. So heres my advice dont leave weed laying around for 3 weeks!!! I just dont know how u do that... It will be so tempting to smoke it if i just am looking at it all day lol.

you can store bud for up to a year. i read in hightimes that bud can be stored for up to a year with the same potency if it is remained FROZEN and VACUUM SEALED. you might be able to stretch it a bit more, but then the potency will slowly decrease.

even if it gets too dry, there's ways of re-adding moisture..

i did a jail beef from april to augest , my room got raided, but they missed one small container or weed about two grams : ) was dry as fuck but the funny thing was it was soaked and i thought it wasent very good weed, but when i seen it dry as fuck i could see the crystals and such,, itWAS good weed!! oh and it was in a plastic film container type thingy

A dark, cool place is best. Humidity in the storage room, is not a major factor, if the weed was ready to go in the jar. 50% is ideal.

I have found weed in my apartment from, don't ask me how, but probably 6 months or more prior. The quality had turned to crap, it was totally dry and pretty harsh, but it got the job done.

I wouldn't know, I have smoked bud that is a few months old and it was fucking great but usually when I buy a few ounces they don't last longer than a week so I never have old bud. Just shit straight out of the drying room.

My wife found some 6 month old buds in her purse (ones I grew) this morning, and gave them to me. They were in a plastic bag, but the bag was open. The buds were still green but they didn't smell at all like weed anymore. They were almost absent of odor. It was strange. I came on the forum, you guys convinced me to smoke them... and DAMN, I'm having trouble typing. They definitely didnt go bad at all. They didnt taste harsh, but I smoked from a bong. They actually didnt taste much at all. Strange but awesome.

lmao ziploc bags dont keep air out If your gonna do it,do it right cure it properly and store it in a mason jar,and keep it in a dark spot.light is bad for thc too.

Orange peel in bag.........or I used to take my regs and put some water on my fingers and sprinkle it in bag.

Next day, it smoked/tasted like dro........weird how that works...

Potency was the same but it tasted better and was less harsh to hit.
